Trip Report TR: What Once Was Lost

It is an interesting time right now in the wooded summits of the eastern backcountry. The rain from a couple of weeks ago didn't do as much damage as it could have, but in the southern hills it's been enough (combined with marginal snowfall since) to knock a lot of spots out of the conversation.

All this really means is that we are forced to lean even more on the most useful skill to the eastern skier, resourcefulness. There are always options to ski somewhere in the northeast if you look hard enough and do your homework.

We (Ralph, Peter, and I) set out to hit a few locations around franconia, with the main objective being an exploratory tour attempting to connect two well known spots if still possible. Some nice early turns as a warmup set the tone.

Ralph did his share of charging uphill and key route finding

Peter put in some turns

Water was shared (dubbed the "teat shot", I'm not crazy about it. )

And a long exodus through the woods was rewarded with some untracked fun

Not too shabby for these low snow times (in NH at least).

Great tour, lots of laughs and fun with a better ending and turns than anyone expected. Perhaps the highlight of the tour was the new friend Peter made on our journey back to the car. Definitely one for the books, P-Hug and RCL1 can chime in with their take.

There are always options if you look hard enough in the eastern backcountry.

( a bit more detail posted at EB )

Very nice choice! I have idly wondered how history has treated that segment. I had a very pleasant sunrise tour up there last April. Similar conditions, if mammary serves.

Nice work fellas! That teat shot is acceptable if you had 'Mother's Milk'.
This season is proving us to be a resourceful bunch. There's still some hidden gems out there!

Hear hear! The EC BC builds stout and resourceful outdoorsmen (um, and outdoorswomen, where applicable!).

Let's all go the woods now, and find something to shred...

I'm not sure I know what you are talking about JT, but I'm always happy to pitch in.

Just let me know where it is and I'm there...
