I'm looking for partners in the chic chocs april 1-april 5. I'll be staying in a cabin near the gite. I have a guide for 2-3 days but will gladly replace with local knowledge and/or new englander if you're up there. Please let me know.

I WISH!

If anybody has the time but has doubts, I can say this, if you don't do this when you can you will really be missing something!

Looking forward to great TRs from one of my favorite places!

I was there a few weeks back for my 8th consecutive year. I'm happy to share info (and maps) if you want to send me a pm with your email. Wish I had the time to go back with you next week!

Tyler, this sounds like a great trip. It's very possible that I might be able to join you, but I have a bunch of questions about the logistics. Maybe we can chat on the phone? My cell is 774twofivethree2064.

skiable, but not the most epic of springs. Better than my neck of the woods though!

Dan, Les Chic Chocs get a lot of snow in March and April. This season is a bit screwy, so who knows what the Snows will be like.

I have only been up 3 times, but in each of those mid-April visits there were fresh snow avalanches to deal with. Even down at the roadside attractions there was powder snow on all North Facing aspects. One year the powder was a bit mushy to start, but gradual cooling dried it out nicely...and it snowed!

Yes, it is a bit of a chance....Taking that chance it is usually well repaid. If it warms up or is sunny there will be more than enough corn snow on he southern aspects.

Quote:
Snowpack : The melt freeze crust present at all altitudes has more thickened and forms a very hard shell of 25cm thick. Dry snow is covering it in places sheltered from the N wind in the Mines-Madeleine sector only.
This is the place to go if you are fast on the skin track or can get invited in for an overnighter.
