What kind of weather, at least at this point in the season, would make you avoid tux? I'm planning on going the 18th-20th, and that weekend is just coming into view on the weather.com forecast, calling for snow/wind. Is there a specific wind speed point that makes it dangerous?

You've got two factors, wind, and wind-blown snow. Wind-blown snow creates the avalanche hazard, which is an obvious risk on Mt. Washington.

As for the wind, if you've ever been outdoors during a hurricane, you have no idea how windy it gets up there. I've climbed on a 70 gusts to 90 day, and you couldn't stand up for more than a couple of minutes.

People have also died on Mt. Washington from being blown across ice into the woods.

There's not a specific wind point where you can say, It's safe now (well, I guess zero wind). :) It's the combination of factors.

And I wouldn't pay too much attention to a forecast for next weekend. To paraphrase Mark Twain about New England weather: "If you don't like it, wait a minute."

even scarier than inclement weather is the fact that it's inferno weekend. it'll be raining people. good days to be at sunday river, better snow, less people.

The Inferno ski route is finalized the morning of the race (something like 8 or 9) depending on conditions.
