No need to panic guys the site lives on as it has since March 31, 1996.. oh my thats 7 years or 2,608 days to be exact!

It past years the site was definately much smaller and was used by only a fraction of the current Tuckermite population. Naturally by early June activity petered away until the following March.

This year... who knows. Depends on the members how busy it stays. How many still wake up a night fantasizing about possible snow in the ravine, even in the heat of the summer?

No layoffs here.. I do tend to do more of my regular work however. No $$$'s here. :)

Well Dave I guess I am not the only wierdo, who checks out the T4T site during the sweltering days of July, August, etc. :sun:
Throught the summer I do think often, ok daily, if the next winter will be a good one or not. With anticipation for the first maple leaves to turn yellow...that first real cold spell that brings winter air...Ahhhhh.

Dave you do a heck of a good job with this site and I want to THANK YOU for your efforts and obvious time you spend making this a good place for us ski junkies hang together. I am already looking forward to how mom nature will lay down her snow upon the rocks of the ravine. My goal next winter is to ski from the summit over the headwall, down little headwall, and down to the parking lot. Thanks again Dave, oh yes what is it that you do for $$, must be related to computers, you certainly know your stuff. See ya, Bill

I second Bill's comments on Dave and on his next goal, 'cept I think a break at Lunchrocks to take it all in and chill with whomever may be present, then on to Little Headwall and Sherburne and my heated seats.

First off, it ain't my work, I've only seen Mt Shasta in the distance. Oh yeah, it's an extinct volcano....but it has produced a little seismic stuff in the last ten years. Anyway, we are talking northern California not far from the tri-state meeting of its border with those of Oregon and Nevada.

And you betcher a-- I want to go....but I'm off to the Dolomites for this Spring's adventures in the high country. Next year, perhaps a nice mid week in June....

If you can afford to fly, go South, way South. The Argentine Peso tanked against the US Dollar when they unattached from the US economy 2 yrs ago. As a result prices are still the same but instead of 1:1 peso to dollar its about 2.5:1 now. This means that a 15 day :liftticket: at Las Lenas for example is only... $352, or $23/ day during high season (day tickets = $35 - The last time I was there they were $78) - Low season- 15 days=226 or $15/day. Equally cheep are the hotels for the same reasons. And, if the season is good :snowflakes: , there is more :gondola: served back country :jumpturn: than you could possibly imagine, all :jumpturn: and no :unhappyhiker: and if you want to add a short :happyhiker: ... you would drool at the possibilities. Just make sure you bring avy gear, they have a sophisticated avy control system but it wasn't place very well, and they are susceptible to dangerous situations.

I can't afford to go this year :(

Hey Skilaslenas:

You are a true inspiration. But, it costs a ton of money to fly, and travel outside the US usually requires unpleasant stopovers.

Do they ever have e-savers to Las Lenas? :D

And, are there any reasonably direct flights from the northeast US? :D

I have been lucky enough to fly way south the past 2 summers, once to Chile & once to Argentina. I will be heading back to Chile this August as well. Its incredible, well worth the $$, airfare is not tooo bad, right now you can fly to Sntiago, Chile or Buenas Aries, Argentina for $450 - 600 from NYC. That's about what it costs to fly out west.... enjoy, skiya

Skimom, as noted above it really doesn't cost all that much to fly to So. America. It is a long trip and most of the only direct flights are from Miami, Dallas, or LA, with a few from NY.

I have flown down there 3 times and I have several friends who've gone a bunch of times and never payed more than $650, and one guy paid $325, if you shop around. It is a long ride, 12 hrs or so :eek: . So it is cheaper all around to ski in So. America than Colorado if you live on the East Coast, which we do.

I would go in a heart beat if I could :( (though my situation could change)

I would reccomend the end of August through the middle of Sept. Season ends beginning to middle of Oct. If you go in High season, July, there is a risk of light cover. The Santa Ana storm hits mid/late August and is usually good for at least 2 ft (nearly 5ft in 2 days in 2000 when I was there last :D :snowflakes: :D ) Spring mid sept on is like skiing Tucks in May, but the weather is almost ALWAYS nice and imagine sunny warm days with lift serve to bowls as big as tucks (not quite as steep - up to 45 deg.) Huntingtons, Gulf of Slides, AND Great Gulf all at the same place with limited walking time (no more than a 1/2 hour to 3/4) and only for some of the runs)

{sigh}

{thinking: Maybe if everyone pitches in for my flight, I could be the official guide and translator/interpretor...}

And yeah Doc. they party all night. When I worked there in '94, my daily schedule was up at 7:30 - work til 1:30 - ski two hours (or nap) - work til 12:30/1:00 am - party til 4:30. I did that for 45 days straight.
:eek:

PS, if anyone does go to Las Lenas, I recomend you get in touch with me first. I have some trail maps that you can't get at the ticket counter that will prove invaluable to your BC off piste experience.

And they do have :snowcat: :jumpturn: though I've never bothered
