Been to TUX twice. Can't wait to go back this spring. This year I may want to skin up instead of booting. (by the way is skinning in soft corn a good idea?)
Is there a place where I could rent AT gear? I'll be heading southbound from Canada through VT ang NH. I may want to rent crampons one day too.
Anyone has tips about this?
Thanks and keep on skiing smoothly!!

EMS in North Conway rents back country gear.

I think International Mountain Equipment, North Conway also rents AT setups. (Shuksans with Fritschis, I believe.)
Skin up as far as the caretaker cabin if there is sufficient snow cover at the parking lot, otherwise boot up. Higher than the caretaker cabin, it is faster and easier to boot up, unless you are some kind of weirdo skinning purist.

JYou can buy used crampons and other gear for low prices in the consignment store in the basement of IME in North Conway. Purely hit or miss though. Some days there will be nothing but junk in your size...other days? Perfecto!
Ragged Mountan Equipment in Intervale also has basement consignments...smaller selection.

Thanks for the tips!!
For now, don't know if I want to buy all that stuff. The area where I live is flat like your b... MWash area is 5 hours away...
Those living close to the big rock pile are very lucky!!
