I was hoping to be able to get down to tucks after i finish college exams. Is the skiing still any good in late April (ie after the 23 ish). I have never skied tucks before but I am a strong skier and I am in solid physical shape. Any tips or guidance would be greatly appriciated
Thanks

nbskierIt's usually quite good, but about that time folks have to walk most or all of the way back down as sections of the Sherburne Trail are often closed.
Arrive mid-week and stay as long as you can. Check out the Pinkham Notch and Hermit Lake information for lodging options....and use the front page of this site to link to other useful info. Consider the shelters or tenting at Hermit Lake. WARNING, squirrills and Chipmonks willl rob your food stash unless it is critter-proof:eek:

Most years, the skiing is still pretty good. Last year, even the Sherbie was still in great shape at that time, but as RR said, you're most likely going to have to hoof it back down at least part way. As far as tips go:
a. hang around here and try to tag along with some folks who are already going.
b. talk to the folks at Pinkham... they are very helpful and there are no stupid questions... seriously, they'd much rather you ask a question they've heard a thousand time than have someone get in trouble up on the hill
c. be prepared to bail if the weather/conditions aren't right. I've gone up countless times only to find that the winds were really high, the temps were really cold, and nothing was softening up. Those days it's best to find something else to amuse yourself... hey even outlet shopping is better than a long, fast, slippery fall into jagged rocks. (not much better, but still...)
d. don't park on rt. 16. In recent years the police have been more vigilant with parking tickets. If you're not into alpine starts, just follow the cars to the Wildcat lot up the road and walk the half mile back to Pinkham. You're hiking to earn your turns... will an extra half mile really kill you?
e. Do stop at the Moat Mtn Smokehouse and Brewery in scenic Intervale for a celebratory pint and some very fine grub.
f. Take pictures and post a full TR right here.
Z. Do - or don't - ski the bowl naked... depends on your tolerance for men in green jumpsuits wielding citation books... ask around and you'll get the low-down on skiing tux au-natural.
Be smart, be safe, and enjoy!

People slide it on anatomically correct vinyl blow up dolls. Never seen a pair of SL skis up there though ;)
If you can turn 'em and burn 'em they'll go. It's not the tools, it's the carpenter... or something like that.
