Dec 7 - Okemo

WOW!!!

Hit Okemo around 11 am this morning - drive was OK, I was expecting a lot worse, but still took me around 3 hours from CT (normal would be 2:15). But was rewarded for my tardiness, by a free parking-lot lift ticket from some very happy dude who had his share of POW already!!! - Great stuff - Thanks whoever you are!!! - I put it to good use.

Top 1/2 of the mountain was snowing hard, with a constant wind (summit areas were wind-scoured), but once off the top - WOW!!!

Some of the lightest dry pow I have ever ridden on the East Coast!! Spent most of the day over on the South face lapping powder runs off their Hi-speed quad - No crowds - Didnt stand in line once!!!!

The goods: Knee deep was the RULE on the sides of the trails - with occaisional thigh deep pockets. As I mentioned, was sooooooo light and fluffy!!!

Around noon the lifty told me that patrol just dropped the ropes on Punchline and Loose Spruce!!! Got (from what I could tell) was maybe 6th tracks on Punchline!!!!!....beautiful untouched 'Powder S's' down the skiers right side.....on my second pass, my line was still unmolested!!!!

Couldn't find Loose Spruce (forgot to grab a trail map on the way in).

Probably did 15-20 laps off the South Bowl Express quad (never once did I have to share a chair -let alone stand in line).

Took 2 runs down the main mountain, which was more crowded, and much less qualitly, so called it a day around 2:30.....

All in all a great day at Jiminy Yesterday, and a PHENOMINAL day at Flatkemo today.....

Ride home was sweet - all roads were nicely cleaned up.

The only downside I can see - I will be spoiled come a few weeks, with crowds and (hopefully not) classic New England hardpack/boiler plate. But maybe will be the time to head into BC by then anyway....

What a weekend!!!!

Well the desk report sucks. Stuck here with skimum skiing at kmart and yeah. Snow in philly is about 5" pretty dry. My boots aren't here so that ruins skiing down the driveway. Anyway lucky you guys for your tracks. Sounds better then okemo in the rain.

OMFG what a weekend. Saturday I went to Smuggs. Snowed hard all day. Sterling was the only lift open up top, so naturally it got pretty crowded. Skied off that all morning with the boys. The boys had to leave at noon (when it really started snowing hard), so I was left by myself. Not happy with the crowds, I ended up saying F it and hiking up Madonna in my ski boots. Hiked up almost all the way up, to where Catwalk crosses Upper FIS. By the time I got up there, there must have been 4 inches that accumulated. Dropped in on the lower section of upper FIS, and floated the whole way down on some fresh.

That was yesterday- Today was un-freaking-believable. Jay peak with 24 inches over night. The wind has been blowing hard, and the side of the trails were just buried. Waist deep. Face shots at jay today. I can't even pick out one outstanding run! Deep glades all day. I was hucking rocks because it was so soft... Taking Wednesday off so I can go to the bush. I want more snow!!!

Hey 4man, yesterday was the 7th and I had the 3rd set of tracks on ephiphay :D I was right behind you, remember. How is the chest from that face plant?

The :snowflakes: was awesome. The North Face was nicely bumped up. My legs are still burning.

Dec. 7, Sunday River: 36" of fresh, blowing and drifting like mad. Anything that didn't have base coverage before this storm got loaded with bottomless powder. It was hilarious watching people try to cruise slowly across moderate-slope powder: even on the biggest boards, they'd go about 20' and drop into the white room. Coming off a natural kicker, I joined my skis in their mystery moves and plowed submerged through the fluff for a ways, emerging a bit downhill to the surprise of a half-buried snowboarder. Kept snowing all day, bringing total accumulation higher. Once this consolidates, your base will have arrived!

P.S. Slopeside a lifty was reporting 8% water. DRY!

Lots of digging. Coffee, breakfast...more digging. Wax metal edge touring skis, slog to Cemetary, scramble over the wall put on skis and head for Blueberry Hill...where I found some winter thrills. The new trail I cut on the north side was nice, too short, but nice.

24" in sheltered areas, I had to get several runs before I could get any speed out of my skinny skis.

And then home in time to watch the Pat's serve up some frozen Dolphin sushi....delightfull day!

12/7 Windham, NY...it took 4 hours to drive 190 miles (I've done it in 3). The draw was the $32 ticket price as compared to Hunter at $56. Crowd factor was low and at times no lift lines. Nice fresh powder, especially on the closed trails...A GREAT :D day for the first go out of the season.

Sunday river, Dec. 7, about 30 in. of snow and first in line for the barker chair. Too bad we had to wait 3 hours for the lift to run. Worth it though, first tracks down right stuff. Wow!

My friends and i made it up to our local mountain-Berkshire East, about 20 inches of fresh snow and very few people-great day! :D (although there was only one lift and 4 trails the closed trails were where the real powder was)
this trail was closed:

Well.... Hey HeyBC - I hear the people that ski Windham can't handle steep terrain and bumps. And all they want to do is blast people from Hunter who they think are breaking their stones...?

Enjoy Windham... I know everyone over 60 that i know does..

seriously - whats your problem?

DMC...YOU HAVEN'T MADE ANNOTHER ENEMY...ACTUALLY, YOU AND I CAN GET ALONG JUST FINE. THE COMMENT ABOUT BUYING A BURGER FOR LUNCH IS UNCALLED FOR... NOW THE COMMENT ABOUT PEOPLE OVER 60, JEEZ...AND THEN YOUR PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE COMMENT. I THOUGHT THIS SITE WAS ABOUT PEOPLE SHARING A COMMON INTEREST...NOT ABOUT SLAMMING THE PARTICIPANTS. ANYWAYS, LET'S GO BOARDING SOME DAY AND YOU CAN TEACH THIS OLD DOG SOME NEW TRICKS, EVEN THOUGH I KNOW I WON'T BE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH YOU.

Second of all - All I meant was - a couple of burgers at lunch is the difference in the lift tickets.. It was a joke... but the truth is - Hunter has better steeper and more varied terrain... And most people who ride TUX - crave that kind of stuff..

We'd better not ride together - you'd end up punching me by the end of the day... Just because you don't get my humour doesn't mean I'll stop...

Seriously - I'm up every weekend... Give me a shout - I'll change your mind about Hunter.. Or end up with a black eye..

Actually we were talking this weekend about doing some sweet back country shots that are not resort accessed in the Catskills..

I think the recent storm will make a great base.. Especially if we get a little rain to tamp it down a bit and harden it...
