Rutgers U, is showing nice cold water from Block Island all the way to Halifax, with a nice draw of cold water out of the Laurentian Basin.

If it does pop, there will be plenty of ammo and not too much warming

Long as there's no dang overriding south-southeast wind component - we've got ~ 50 from here to the eastern canyons south of the Vineyard, with far southern and eastern waters close to the stream nearly 66. But that thar's a heck of a long fetch from Oceanographer, Lydonia, Powell and Munson Canyons all the way to the Whites, Greens n daks.

But me? I'm wit boardman - I ain't sayin NUTHIN!

Dudes, it will happen... why? Because I am scheduled to fly from Boston NYC on the 17th and then from NYC to Philly (worst airport in the world) on the 18th and then back to Boston on the 19th. It will snow and it will be massive. I will be lucky to spend Christmas with my family...

Now if we can collectively unite in thought, we can nudge this Thurs-Fri event a little to the north. Ommmmmmm! Ommmmmmmmm! Ommmmmmmm!

Hey ULLR! Give us a hand could ya? :D

And looky to the south! Olga off the coast of Puerto Rico may be of interest to some. Let's see if we can draw Olga near and get a big high to sit on Bermuda and one on New Brunswick so it can slide right in and sit upon us nor'easterners.

Timing is everything. I'm driving to NH on Thursday (10 hours plus), then BW, SR, Saddleback and the 'Loaf from Friday through Monday. If these storms keep stackin' up, this could be a dream trip :skiplow: (or I could get snowed in somewhere without skiing)

Agreed on both systems, 8s. I'd LOVE to see Olga (coincidentally, my dear grandma's name) come this way, one - for the waves she'd generate spinning off the coast and b, for the snow she'd dump on them thar hills.

Unfortunately, it looks like that granny of a storm is favoring Yucatan - Belize. AGAIN. What a bust of a tropical season it's been.

Of course I really really hope both this Thur-Fri event and the Sunday storm favor the hills of the nor'east. Though I'd also like to see a bit of snow fall around here, 'specially considering tis the season and I have yet to see much more than an inch of snow this fall. :(

From Henry today:

In my mind this morning, figuring out where the cold front will end up across the South and Southeast Friday is critical to the track of the storm and how far north the initial center of the storm goes up west of the mountains before the secondary takes over. I am confident that the Northeast gets slammed by a major storm, but it's the corridor from New York City to Roanoke where it can go either way in regards to the type of precip. I do think places like NYC and Philly end up having snow as the storm bombs out and cold air rushes into the center of it.

from an email sent to VT road crews:

Major Nor'easter to dump big snows across the state.

Arriving Saturday night and lasting into Sunday night before exiting...as snow showers and flurries. Wind drifting and snow loading could be problematical with such a big amount of snow fall, though it will be cold aloft and at the surface making it a drier snowfall with less stick about 20:1 ratio or better, some areas traditionally start out that way but work back toward 10 to 15:1 ratios making for wetter combinations.

System will be loaded up with moisture for the Gulf of Mexico and import from remnants of ex tropical storm Olga.

It will track from Texas to southern New England and off the coast into the Gulf of Maine while interior New England temperatures will be cold enough for all snow...dividing line with any further track inland may shift north to affect southern Vermont with chance for risked sleet and wetter snow ratio's for snow loading.

Needless to say we'll have to watch the winds from the north at 20 to 35 mph with possible gusts to 40 mph in the higher terrain with blowing and drifting and blizzard white-out conditions developing Saturday night into the all of Sunday.

Meso-scale banding will be an important feature during the early Sunday morning and again Sunday afternoon with potential 2 to 3 inch snowfall rates per hour, possibly even thunder as the storm will have higher than usual upward vertical motion.

With the colder temperatures in place I'm anticipating a dry snow, but with lots of it possible 2 to extreme cases 4 feet and 1 to 2 feet in many valleys. The storms has similarity to the Valentines Day storm with more wind and and slightly less precip amounts but still very healthy possibly in the top 15 or 20 winter storms based on current trajectory and forecast models.
