Hey gang,

Someone last season posted a TR about a quided backcountry resort to resort tour they did in Utah. I have a friend heading that way after Christmas and was hoping I could pass on some info to him regarding, starts, resorts name of the guide service etc.

Many thanks,

We had booked a group tour, but the guy fixing our dishwasher overheard us and did us a private tour for about 1/2 the price. Here's his info:

Had a great tour thru skiutah.com on the interconnect 2 years ago.
A little pricey, but the guides found us some great untracked shots and we had a great day.
Guides were friendly and informative, skiing wasnt gnar, but fun.
The highway to heaven connection from Solitude to Grizzly gulch in moderate avy conditions was the only sketchy traverse on the day.
PM me if you have specific questions on this tour.
BTW we did the tour which starts at Deer Valley and Ends at Snowbird.

I did the interconnect tour a year ago and it was well worth the $175. The tour starts out in the base lodge at Deer Valley and they hand out avalanche beacons. From there you take a few runs and traverse to Empire Canyon where you duck the OB rope and cross into Park city mountain resort then drop into Mcconkey's bowl. Once again you take a few runs towards Jupiter Peak then duck another OB rope into the backside of Park City Mountain Resort. In the backside I would consider the wide open area mid grade and nothing too challenging. Once you reach the bottom you coast to Big Cottonwood Canyon road and cross the street to Solitude Resort. Jump back on the lift and you’re off again, burning a few runs then eventually crossing into the backcountry between Solitude and Brighton with Highway to Heaven" ski traverse near by and wolverine Cirque in the distance. Next it was off to Brighton for a few runs then we skied back to Solitude on a run that connects the two resorts "sol-bright" trail. Once we were back in Solitude we had a quick lunch then took the Highway to Heaven" ski traverse and dropped into Alta for a few runs. At that point we then took the connecting run into Snowbird from Alta. At the end of the day we took the interconnect tour bus back to Park city from Snowbird and picked up a few 30 packs for the bus ride back and told some great stories while throwing back a few beers. What really made the trip worth it was a fresh dump of about two feet of snow the night before. The snow inside the resorts was insane as well as the fresh numerous untracked powder runs we got in the backcountry. My advice if you don’t have the money to spend on Cat backcountry tour skiing would be to book a spot on the interconnect tour a few days before a huge snowfall as I did. The website has an updated real-time number of how many spots they have remaining for the tour for each date and I would recommend this tour for intermediate and expert skiers. It will blow your mind how close each resort is to one another.

I did the interconnect on vacation before i moved out here. It was fun but i though it was a lot of money to ski groomers for half the day. It's awesome if your a resort skier, don't have touring gear, or are just getting into touring .. but if you like to tour, have gear and are in reasonably good shape i recommend doing a BC tour. Exum is a excellent local outfit. http://www.exum.ofutah.com/ There are some AWESOME easy access tours that blow away anything on the interconnect tour.
