Hermit Lake Shelters

Was planning on going up this weekend, but teenage son's life too complicated. His next free weekend is May 19th.

Does anyone have info re: how fast the shelter permits go? I was told to be in line at Pinkham's (all of us) at 5:30AM and I should be OK. Any advice/info giving me an idea of how early the permits are going each day is much appreciated.

This year we got our permit on thursday night (April 13th) and there were only 17 other people up at Hermit Lake. I heard from the Ranger that the space ran out around 8am FRIDAY morning.

Last year we got our permit at around 7am Friday morning, and it was getting pretty tight.

If you show up friday BEFORE 8ish you should be okay. If you can get friday off, try to stay somewhere near Pinkham notch and get up early.
