Things are a bit quiet on the "Board" lately, so I thought the subject topic might be interesting (Summerfun) :sun: .
Here in Jersey, I spend a lot of time biking and swimming during the week. Weekends are spent at LBI, canyon runs chasing big fish (tuna and Marlin), big waves (pray for hurricanes), and big wind (sailing). Oh, and of course the occasional  and :hottub:

I look for e-savers to places with snow.
If that fails, I sometimes go for an early morning gallop on a semiretired race horse....rejuvenating and fun...
When it's sweltering I do the usual water sports. I'd like to try water skiing this summer, but have never done it before. Anyone know how close it is to real skiing?

Skiing if possible, not looking good this summer....Golfing, mountain biking, this summer it's been mostly renovating the house, building a deck and drinking beer.
Mumster....Water skiing with two skis I don't find anything like snow skiing, I like one ski better feels more like carving, I havent' tried wake boarding but I'm sure it's a ton of fun.

Camping, camping and more camping. :teardrop:
Lots of travelling :hummer:
And near daily dips in the :hottub: when we're home (just got out actually!)
Course I do watch the webcam to see how the snow is melting up in Tucks to cool off some. :camera:
Will be off to Sandbanks provincial park for a 5 day camp out with a gang off about 25 starting Thursday! :pizza: :outhouse: :shorts: :tube: :sun: :partlycloudy: :lunchrocks: :radio: :waterbottle:

Not very - ESPECIALLY if you have previous water- skiiing experience...the main difference is your stance is sideways as oppposed to facing forward.....
gets depressing, however, when you get many weekends in a row of :raining: , .....and then when you finally get a week of :sun: you encounter @!$%$^$@ motor problems (again), and last night go to work on said @*^#&^ motor, by the time you get to the water and row out to your mooring you get hit with thunder and lightning....after watching 12 hours of beautiful weather all day while sitting :atwork: ....
but no bitterness here.,...

I'm another mountan Biker.... I like anything that can take me down a mountain at high speeds, of course boarding down tucks is #1. will try to get in as much striper fishing as i can too. and the usual other stuff like  :tent: :hottub:
Anyway got to get back to :atwork:
Sitting very still in the air-conditioned basement.
I hate heat. Cold is much better. There's only so many layers you can take off.

My biggest summertime activity is doing everything in my power not to sweat, except during physical activity, which is generally avoided unless it involves the chilly Atlantic or a river or lake. I HATE this weather, must move to Canada.

Yeah....it's so much cooler up here. Grrrrr it was 100 on my deck this past Saturday.

Have to agree with M@ on that last point...However, since my house is built on a slab (I guess the original owners built it as a summer retreat or something so no basement) and I have no way to sit in my basement, I actually do a lot of backpacking and camping up in the Presidential Range. Some mountain biking (mud and I get along quite nicely, thank you!). We try to get to the beach (there are 5 or 6 nice beaches withing 15 minutes of us on Winnipesaukee, including one that's private but we live a few houses down from the property owner and they let us use it when we want...especially nice during the week as they only come up weekends) at least one or two days during the week (NOT weekends...most of the other New England states are up here on the weekends). Oh yeah, also work and school. Family camping (something I'm STILL getting used to since I've been pretty much a solo camper for years...I actually enjoy it now, though. OK, that's enough. Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:

Jolly: You can't fool us. We Americans down here KNOW that it is colder up there. In fact, we have heard rumors that every property owner in Canada has a ski area the size of Whistler/Blackcomb within a 15 minute drive of their home. Also, the main roads are heated up there so that there isn't even any plowing required. And we aslo know that Dudley Do-Right IS real, not just a cartoon. And that Bob and Doug McKenzie are real. OK, enough sensless prattle. Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:

Anything near water...I hate the heat. I go wakeboarding on Lake Champlain and Bomoseen, boating, fishing, swimming, and drinking beers. Sometimes I go to the gorge or a quarry and jump off the cliffs.

Windsurf! I can't believe there weren't any other shred head responses. I guess it is a dying sport.
Hiking...It gets you up and out of the worst of the heat.
A friend of mine is sick into Kite Surfing...
It's replaced just about everything in his life...
He wants me to go sometime... Seems kind scarey..
I've seen the videos of people getting carried by the wind and dropped in the parking lot or on a jetty...

DMC, I saw a guy kite surfing on Champlain last week. Looks sick, but you have got to be a little twisted to do it. I wouldn't want to end up in a parking lot. Not when you're just wearing a bathing suit... Can you say kite rash?
My friend also sepnt a lot of time this winter Kite (snow)Boarding on a lake near his house...
He'd ride across the lake and if he couldnt make it back he'd go to the bar and call a cab to get home...

I've been into stunt kites (including parafoil types) for many years.. its an art to fly them properly. Done windsurfing too... its an art form too.
Then theres kite surfing! Gad! Put the two together is got to be mighty difficult. I've only seen it done once (Sandbanks Provincial Park). Actually the guy was trying to kite surf. He spend the WHOLE day setting it up and trying to get going, to no avail. I just sat on the beach and watched all the gals go by
How a much better choice in my opinion would be 'Up Skiing'... mind you this is a winter sport, not summer. Anybody tried it yet?
P.S. Worked on my tear drop trailer outside today in a sweltering sun and 33C which is 93.2F. Had to come in for air conditioning before I passed out!

How a much better choice in my opinion would be 'Up Skiing'... If I get the right people to come to Tucks next year, you could very well see them kite boarding on the Upper Snowfields....
I almost got two friends that do it to come last year....
Here's one of them on a lake..

I'd imagine they'd need a really small kite for the snowfields. 90% of the time it is blowing a full gale or more there.
I am intrigued with kiteboarding as well and saw the video of the guy getting trashed. Another all encompassing, expensive, gear head sport, I do not need! I don't get to windsurf enough!
A few years ago 20 or so), myself and two like minded friends drove down to the dunes in Truro on Cape Cod on a sunny October day and took a few sand ski runs. I doubt we'd be allowed to do that now (or then for that matter). Those bindings never saw snow again. It was as they say...... A hoot!

:skicdave: What is up skiing? Also, are you going to put the T4T logo on your :teardrop: ? Hey Stirmumstir,
Up Skiing is done on selected mountains where winds and terrain allow you to ski up the mountain behind a kite... well more like a parachute actually. The benefits?
- no lift lines
- no lift tickets
- no lift breakdowns
- powder going up!
Once your up, you vent the parachute and ski downhill. Got to be some amazing vertical available for a daily outing!
Check it out HERE (http://www.upski.com/)
And about the logo on our PJ Snoozer Trailer... not sure about that... I was interested in having an artist type airbrush on a retro ski scene however... or a pair of Adirondack chairs... will see next year. We spent our budget on the trailer already this season. Its a blast! Best bet next to the Hermit Lake Shelters for sleeping over near Tucks.

I may try it this weekend with a landboard.. A big skate board with fat tires...

For me surfing is the only substitute. Around here it's your best option. Bad spring weather this year has made for some nice swell.
Below is snap of surf just east of Halifax two weeks ago.

SpringFever...Outstanding picture (Somebody dropping in on a BIG WAVE)...reminds me of my first and only trip to NS in September 1983 when a friend and I made the journey looking for waves. What a trip...we refer to it as Fear & Loathing in NS...a memory that will last a lifetime.
Can you help me out with some local knowledge on this break or is it a secret?

As cool as the ocean is, I religiously avoid any contact with the cost from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and I generally look for little nooks and crannies far from civilization where few would think to go. I also avoid state and national parks as if they were SARS victims. As much as I love Katahdin, I've had my fill of the BSP Gestapo. Now I just camp, bike, hike, and drink beer. Good source of carbs you know!

Weekdays I bike to work whenever its not raining. Weekends, I've been hoping to learn to surf (been out once so far, on Rhode Island), but hard to squeeze time in because of lots of planned travel (weekend drives to NYC to visit family & Phili & NJ to visit friends; long weekend in Chicago). Big plan for the summer is to hike Mt. Katahdin. Anyone here ever done it? Although its a much longer hike than Mt. Washington, I figure without the heavy pack o' ski equipment it will balance out.

I hiked katahdin when I was 8 or 9, I would really like to go back in the winter to ski it.
definately want to try out surfing, my Dad has a house near horseneck beach which is pretty good surf territory ... for NE
HeyBC

Horseneck Beach (Little Compton)has good surf from time to time but it can't hold a crowd. Then there are the Newport Beachbreaks, Ruggles, and Tuckerman's...yes there is a surf break in RI called Tuckerman's. It's an outside reefbreak in Newport, not far from Ruggles, that can hold a HUGE swell.
RI has great surf...I have spent most of my time on the Naraganset side where there are approximately 15 different breaks (rock reef, point, and beach) within a 10 mile ride. I have caught Pt. Judith on a huricane swell and the place just fires. Then there is "offshore NE", which has private and pristine pointbreaks that can break for 300 yards (that's as much as I can tell you...because there has to be some advaenture left in the world).
