LOL. Yup he was ok... actually that is John of John and Illene got married at Tucks (http://timefortuckerman.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=000288) fam. He had a slow mo wipeout and was stuck between a hard slope and soft snow... pre wedding jitters no doubt..
I ask vu... what would you do to get out of that perdictament? :p
I wouldnt get married..... ;)
seriously:::
I'd pull my legs up to my body and push to get back up...

DMC:
I wouldn't get married, I'd pull my legs up to my body and push to get back up... Ok then, forget getting married then, but the angle of the photo is misleading. John could stand up, but then his skis are spread eagle. It was too steep to flip around one ski... I remember his perdicament (spello), it took him a while to undo his doings... but in the end he did get married.
I was there that day.... It was awesome!!!
I saw them getting married by the lake as I was hiking to our shelter...
Too bad my Fiance' isn't into hiking... We're most likely going to get married somewhere thats lift serviced... ;)
Was that 2002-04-28 ??
Dmc Was there?
I was there, and have pix to prove it:

How the h@ll did he get in that position. I'd say lift your skis, slid on your belly to get your skis under you and then stand up like DMC said. Only problem is wearing shorts you'd leave most of your quad muscles behind on the snow. I guess that's why I don't ski in shorts.
Ouch...
Many a time I've seen people sliding down the bowl and I yell "Stand up!!! STAND UP!!!"
But they never do.... and they just slide... and slide and slide...

You know if you look at the pic it kinda looks like the guy fell from a plane and just kind of spatted on the ground.

I take it he wasn't married at that point... He looks like he's doing to the snow something he should be doing with his wife...
Er...Gardening!, yeah that's it!

Ouch. Why not flex his knees to lift his skis off the ground, then pivot over?
He could reduce the DIN so his skis release next time.
I think maybe stand up and slide backwards a bit and jump as soon as you can to get them parallel.

Solution...try snowboarding.

I looked just like that after my ACL crash, except head down, on my back...maybe that's the female counterpart.

LOL toooo funny. Like I said, the angle doesn't show the steepness. Only way is to dig in with his hands or poles to hold on to the slope, then bend his knees to bend his legs back and pivot like I think Mumster is suggesting... then again he might end up sliding downhill once he lifts his skis resulting in a major wedgie, skin rash and more.
I'll have to check the video... I think John took off one ski to resolve himself.
This reminds me another photo I should post...

I looked just like that after my ACL crash, except head down, on my back...maybe that's the female counterpart. My best incident was a face plant into the deep valley of a HUGE mogul field... I mean real deep moguls. My ski came back from behind and sliced my head open. I felt fine, but took off my glove to feel my head. It felt VERY warm! Then I looked and my hand was soaked in blood. I had a whole raft of stitches that day...
I do regret however not wearing a WHITE turtle neck instead of a RED one... who have been more dramatic and probably would have freaked out a few more people down at the lift line... oh well live and learn!

I asked my wife to marry me at Sugarbush. She said yes. Best day of her life. lol. Nothing better than a patient spouse that allows you to pursue your hobbies and interests with a pretty high level of freedom. Plus I allow her to clean and cook for me! lol. (Only kidding!) I hope she never sees THIS one or I sleep in my ski-tuning workshop for a while. Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:
Asked my wife at Copper.
My worst day was a dislocated shoulder at sugarbush, in slidebrook. Right at the damn top too, had to walk down in pain.
Ok: How did Dave get that picture, if DMC was there that weekend? I know I was there the same weekend as DMC, but I thought SkiDave was there the week before.

What happened to the original topic? It was about snow and face plants! Now we are talking about the romantic settings we chose to propose to our beloved wifes... :wedding: :lips: ... what a sorry lot! :p
Oh well... on the bright side maybe we can put a T4T Son of Inferno team by volunteering our said devoted, loving wives.
[note: ignore this one if you are Mumster, BladeGirl or kmrnskier]

Wow, I'm impressed -> You guys are so romantic. My husband proposed to me :wedding: while waiting for a teller at the bank. Got my own ring a decade later, with the help of my mother-in-law (who knew her son would never get around to it).
Dave - I'd volunteer the hubby, but he's self-employed.

Hey, who put the flute in for M@'s avatar?
Hey Dave: You brought the post around to nuptials with the link to the Ilene and John's wedding.
They should change there names to Ilene and Ifall.
Hey Mum:
I've got my avatar link on my server, so I can change it at will.
I was going to propose to my Fiance' on the mountain but it rained that day... So I proposed in my ski house...
I had to because she was hanging with her girlfriends that night and I figured she'd get a chance to tell them all in one spot.... Thus avoiding all the girly engagement banter...

M@ - The flute looks naked without you in the image.
DMC - So when's the date?

NEVER BRING UP M@'s NAKED FLUTE AGAIN!!!!! thanks....
As far as getting married... Probably in a year or so.. We know we want to get hitched at a ski area.. We'd like to take vows and they just ride... It's just a question of logistics at this point - well - that and $$...
Stowe has a Chappel on the toll road trail, lots of hitching there.
And Sugarbush has a stash called "Church," but I'll wager at most 1/2 of your guests could ever get there, much less enjoy skiing down from there.

More off topic proposal talk. I proposed to my sweetie in a horse & carriage in New York City's Central Park, at dusk, on Christmas. I had only been skiing one year at that point (he taught me) so had not yet been bitten by the ski bug. Today I'd probably do it in front of the fireplace of a nice chalet apres-ski, or perhaps in the :hottub: . Or for real romance, maybe :ducttape: a ring to his :skis: ...

No snow so we have to talk about something off-subject. Second love of my life after skiing is my spouse. Doh! Did I just say that??? Phew! I'm safe! My wife's out shopping! lol Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:

Just to put that picture in context: This guy caught an edge right where the lip goes over the headwall, and ROLLED down the slope.
