Someone from this MB was describing snowless (artificial snow) skiing in the UK a few months ago. I have to go there next week for :atwork: and was thinking of trying to find a place to check out. Unfortunately, I'm still in my hobbling mode and I don't want to risk reinjury.

1. Does anyone know about the relative risks of injury on these artificial snow hills?
2. Are they are targeted for beginners or appropriate for all?
3. Also, do you bring your own skis, or use special ones (no way I could carry skis)?

I am no expert but I have read a few articles about indoor skiing. Most places allow you to rent and they are definately targeted at the beginer. I think most slopes average like 200 ft verticle at a 15% incline. I don't know about the injury factor but I would think it to be the same as skiing a bunny slope.

Search indoor skiing on the web and you should come up with the place in the UK. I know I have seen it discussed.

There are about 7 that I am aware of in the UK: Bromley, High Action, Hillingdon, Norkfolk, Swadlincote, Tamworth Snowdome, Telford.

They are all listed on SkiCentral - England Ski Resorts (http://skicentral.com/england.html)

Mumster you should buy a pair of those artifical grass skis... they'd be fun! Designed like the tracks on a combate tank. No doubt boo boo's await!

Hey Mums

Ya that was me. My dad lives over in manchester and I looked into it when I was there last.

I found this link again....

it looks like fun. but I am not sure the ramifications of a fall. The hardpack rash could be nasty. I think they have rental gear.

Let us know how you make out.

Hopefully, there will be time to check one of these places out even if I can't ski...I get a much better idea of it's potential when I see it. :)

I'd need to look a the injury stats for grass skis. Have you ever tried them Dave :skicdave: (no lifts needed)? My knees won't sustain many more major injuries...may need to leave it to the kids.
