Big Squaw is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Lift tickets are a refreshing $15 weekday ($25 weekend). Awesome setting; some of the best lift-serve glades (undesignated) I've ever found. Snow like Jay Peak, with views of Moosehead Lake like a frozen Tahoe. "Ski the view!"

A quote from the NE ski area classic hero, Sel Hanna: "Of all the 1000 ski trails and 300 ski areas I have designed, the Penobscot Trail at Big Squaw Mountain is by far the most scenic."

Yeah! $15... 4.5 from Boston is a haul but only another hour compared to No. VT.

It's far, even for a Mainah, but worth a visit. Because it's so far out there, powder stashes can stay for weeks even without fresh snow.

And it's so far away for most/all of you that I feel comfortable it still won't be tracked out, even after my evangelizing.

:schlitz: on!

Interesting point - it being so far away preserves the conditions. How hard to find these stashes? Cheap lift ticket is nice, but you gotta load up the car to keep the gas price from ruining the economy of it.

They are easy to find M@. I found them on my first day. Talk to a liftie, they are very open about where the goods are. Or just follow one of the locals. squaw is only an hour and a half from me. Every time ive gone ive found significant fresh powder even if it hasnt snowed for weeks. They also have one of the largest glade systems i have ever seen.
