Hey everyone,

Going to tucks in April,

Could I leave my Backpack on the lunchrocks while I take the hike up tucks with out having to worry about my stuff being stolen?

I would think it would be cool, but others warned me to be carefull.

~Theres always got to be a rotting corpse around to stink up the place just as you were about to have company :disinfo: ~

Just dont leave anything out that people may want.. I've never had anything stolen at Tucks..

Someone stole my friends boots from the shower in Pinham Notch one year...

I have left my stuff at lunch rocks before and never had anything stolen but it's better to be safe and take anything you are concerned about. everyone else is carrying stuff too so things like cameras and small (expensive) stuff you want to be careful with.

I recommend waiting for someone to send a sweet run or crash with panache and bury those long lecks in the snow next to your pack...

Beyond that, the folks up there will share food, beer too, if your stuff gets gripped. I've seen plenty of shareing over the years, but I've never heard any cries of foul regarding theft in the Ravine.

If by some accident, you fail to consume all your frosties....shame...sell each remaining for up to a dollar and complete your pennance by stuffing ALL the proceeds into the TRVSP donation box on the deck at Ho-Jo's.

We all thank you!

I'm with DMC. Never heard of a theft at Tucks, but If I leave a pack in the bowl, it is basically empty. I try to bring as little up there as possible/necessary. What would you need to bring that you wouldn't have with you? CamCorder maybe?

I always try to stash my stuff out of site in the shelters before I leave for the day... Stoves - fuel - roll up the bag - hide the bottle of tequila- etc....

But only after I hang my food so those freakin Red Squirrels(rats) and fox wont get to it...

I'm actually much more afraid that the varmits are going to get into my stuff than anything else..

One year I didn't thoroughly bury my beers at Lunch Rocks. I came back to find two missing ... they had been replaced with 2 dollar bills so I wasn't overly annoyed.

Otherwise, I always leave my pack at Lunch Rocks, its just extra clothes and my lunch so I'm not too worried. My camera comes with me more so I can take pictures than for concern for its safety.

I'd pay you a dollar a can to carry up beer, SkiLas.

I've left my pack (minus camera) at lunch rocks twice, and once on Hillmans and have not had a problem. Perhaps the stinky hiking socks and sweaty sun hat are not all that appealing.

I left my pack with a camera in it on the lunch rocks. But I talked to the person sitting next to me first, so they kinda knew it was mine and would notice if someone different was rifiling through it. Normal plan is that someone with me is hanging on the rocks to watch the groups stuff.

I leave all my camping stuff unattended in the lean-to's every trip. The sleeping bag is nice, and I suppose the inflatable pad is worth a few bucks. Never had a problem though.

A girl once tried to take my duct tape. I dropped it and she asked if it was her's. I said no and we didn't have a problem, but WHOA that was close.

Keep the expen$ive stuff with you, and leave the pack. Shouldn't have a problem. If anyone steals your stuff (which would be awful because you need certain things to survive in the wilderness), you can be sure that they will be going to hell. Suckers. :p

One dollar per beer? I guess you're all living in the past. I can't get a beer for under $2.50 at the local ski bar. What, you expect supermarket prices after someone's packed them up to Tucks? I'll bid $5 for that extra beer!

Tell me about it Lftgly, a six pack of Magic Hat costs 7 bucks! I'd be pissed if someone stole two and only left 2 bucks, I need some compensation for carting that damn weight up the mountain!!!

I once had a an 8 pack of cans attached to my backpack and one had fallen off. Some guys caught up to us on the way and asked if we had lost a beer a ways back. We said yes. They said too bad they hid it in the snow and marked it with their GPS. I thought it was kind of rude, but at least someone got to enjoy it.

Most people are pretty cool up in the ravine. Remember most people don't want to carry anymore than they have to. I think that is probably a deterrant.

DMC - some guys we shared a lean too this spring had squirrels nab some of their stuff. Funny thing was it was hanging simliar to the way you hang yours. I'm not sure if there is a way to get around those little b@stards.

If someone is buying without asking, and paying only 1 dollar, that's not only rude, it's sleazy and worth a sqwak at the very least! Hopefully their "instant karma" won't involve the victem of their theft having to drag their stupid carcass down the hill.

On the other hand, pennance is pennance, fail to drink all you brung, pay the piper. Even if the bidding goes to $2.50@, all the proceeds really ought to go to the TRVSP*. Learning from mistakes is good...planning for posterity is also good. Seems like win-win to me.

Bannick, 2 questions:

1. What topic were you replying to, I can't figure out what you are talking about!!!

2. What is Ethylene Glycol, and where can I get some?
