Photos if you follow the link, the rest of the TR is here:
So i did get up to the adirondacks yesterday. I drove over tuesday night and slept in the car with the intent of hiking up Gothics and skiing either the True North or the Ore bed slides. I had read several reports that put the snow line at 2500ft. which would mean a couple of miles of hiking in AT boots, but generally easy skinning all the way in.
Turns out the snow line is around 3600ft, all the way past the ore bed shelter and more than 4 miles in.
After getting up at 5 and hiking all the way in, there was no way i wasn't going to make turns, but the first slide i came to had no snow at all on it. A quick look up at Gothics revealed that much of the snow had melted out high up reveling just bare rock. On Saddleback, "back in the saddle" looked like it would be possible to ski, but there were huge patches and water running down the exposed rock.
BUMMER
Anyway i found one of the slides in the saddle between gothics (one of the lower elevation ones) to be in great shape and made about 500 vert of turns before skiing back down the short section of skinable trail, popping my skins off and hiking all the way back out.
Total time on the trail: 6:15am - 1:30pm = 7h 15m
Total distance: ~11 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 2700ft
Lessons Learned: 11 miles in AT boots sucks, snow exists in the 'dacks still, but not much.

Damn dood. Thats a looooong way in AT boots. Hell, thats a long way even if you skin from the garden!!!!
Still, well played!!!!
Look me up next season if you're gonna be in the daks.
