Anyone plan on skiing tomorrow? The forecast looks good and the Sherburne is still open...

Castlerock,

I am heading up north tonight after work. Plan on getting to Pinkham Notch early in the AM to start up to the Ravine.

Are you going up?

Paul

It's 50/50. I need some to rearrange some things. But this is my MO for tucks. Watch the weather in early April and then drop everything for the right day. Avoid the weekends and hike at first light. I'll know for sure about 3:30 today and will post.

By the way, I haven't seen any recent pics of the Ravine. Might the Duchess be skiable?

Surgical strike, for me anyway. I hope to be off the hill and driving South, before the shadows start moving across Hillmans.

Besides, it is good family politics to be home in time to cook dinner....

The Duchess looked skiiable two weekends ago... Dodge's was definitely skiiable, did it twice.

Hope that helped. Let us know the conditions when you get back.

A day trip for me too tomorrow.

Definitely planning on another day this year which may turn into an overnight.

I'm in! I've got my bases covered and will be at Pinkham as early as I can get there. 6:30 or so...

Hello Everyone,

I am planning to leave tommorow, as well, and spend the weekend. I am going for a lunar accent...if the cloud cover remains minimal.

I am wicked stoked after last year! I hiked to the base about April 14th and it was ugly! Should be a good time this weekend!!! See you all up there!

Report for the 10th

I just got back, had an excellent day. Perfect weather, not too hot. There was a few inches of new snow. Started from Pinkham at 6:30 AM. Left gully was in bad shape, the wind from the weekend had left some big sastrugi. It will need some new snow or a few freeze/thaw cycles to fix it up.

The rest of the bowl was smooth but with a significant 2' fracture line from below the lip across to the icefall, And a smaller slab that came out at the bottom (skiers right) of the chute. (The chute slab was seen in the Chauvin Guides pics). Nobody had been to the upper part of the bowl since the snow. I kicked a new line up left gully and came down the chute.

It was a bit spooky to be the first down from the upper bowl, with new snow and two big fracture lines visible. But the Avalanche hazard was low. At the top I could feel the rock hard base, but as soon as the slope steepened it softened up. The only thing I had to deal with was the sluff from having first tracks!

The Sherburne was as advertized, OK, with a couple of big ice bars, and a limited future....

The skiing is great! Head on up..
