from the USFS report today:

Anyhow, to get back to the matter at hand, the current storm system dropped another 10.6" (27cm) of wet, heavy snow since yesterday morning, bringing our storm total to about 24" (61cm).

:D

Snow expected to continue throughout today as well.

K-mart's claimin 15" new  but they're closed due to power outages. Wit 28% density at Hermit Lake, one can only imagine what kinda sludge fell there to knock all them wires down.

Good observation 8's. Nice hinder on yer avatar too http://timefortuckerman.com/photopost/data/774/1659horny.gif.

From the MWO website, where the Ravine cams are down and no current weather data is available:

"Unusually adverse weather has disrupted our communication network."

Egads, how bad does the weather on Mt. Washington have to be for it to be "unusually adverse"?! It is the "home of the world's worst weather," after all!

Accuweather radar picture looks like it's still coming down up there. Unreal month so far!

PWDR8S giving Affix a run for his money in the avatar dept.! NICE!

Mount Washington Observatory’s facility, part of Mt. Washington State Park’s Sherman Adams Building, was designed and positioned to bear strong winds from the northwest. Today’s storm is blowing strong from the east, with sustained winds currently around 100 mph.
156mph yesterday!

I liked this part of the report the best personally:

Just to give you an idea of what April has been like, we've added 38.5" (98cm) of total depth at our snowplot, with new snow totals adding up to 63.7" (161.8cm). The difference between the totals is due to settlement of the new snow.

So 5' of snow in April... which about what we received from Dec to March up there this year!

156mph yesterday!

From the south and east, that makes for some very hard conditions to work in up there.

I also read they were having severe glaze icing during the storm with up to 6" of glaze ice per hour accumulating on the equipment.

It sounds like they were pretty much trapped indoors during the height of the storm.

Mmmmm..... ice ice baby! Ice cakes anyone? Just wee bit nasty up on high. I'll pass on that for now. ;)

That's some heavy plaster... good news is that higher density snow is more resilient to non-frozen precip... meaning it will hang around longer. :)

The Lion Head Winter Route is open, however, avalanche issues may arise as anchors become buried. Be prepared to make your own assessments of the snow if you plan on traveling on this route.

If you have any intentions of being up here, bring flotation! You will find snowshoes or skis mandatory for traveling off the beaten path. This includes the Lion Head trail.

Does this mean major postholing for Sunday? I don't have skis or snowshoes!

Stop by EMS or IME to rent snowshoes! This is alot of snow! You'll expend way too much energy if you have to post-hole up the trail.

They rent snowshoes right at Pinkham too... might want to call to see if you can reserve a pair.
