Are there any skiable aspects on Mt. Marcy?
This year the Whites are looking a little far away, so I was thinking an April trip into the Adirondacks might be nice for change. Is it worth bringing the snowboard up, say, Mt Marcy? From Spring pictures I've seen it looks like there are some snowfields near the summit, but there's no real information out there about whether they are doable or worth doing.

I prefer Mount Pepermint Patty, myself.:)
It's been 27 years since I've been up there (and I was there in February). There seemed to be a few good lines, but I have to believe there are more interesting lines in the 'daks that are more accessable.

Me likey Mount Lucy.;)
Only hiked through, never slid there, but gotta tell ya, Marcy's a LONG LONG approach and this time of year that's prolly gonna involve several equipment changes (skintrack to muck to ice to skintrack to pond). A couple peeps have told me that Marcy's long approach and mediocre terrain (compared to some other stuff 'round there) put it pretty low on there list of ADK ski tours - and that's in winter when you can ski all the way in. There's 'upposed to be other areas, a book wit real purdy pitchers of slides with somewhat shorter approaches (but no descriptions) and Goodman's NE book covers a wee bit of it. Several folks 'round here (myself not being one of them) got lots of experience and beta, but they're kinda tight-lipped in public posts.
Good luck.

I would think a snowboard would not be the best choice for Marcy. There are numerous flat sections, and even a few uphills when heading back off of the summit. The summit cone has good lines, when the snow is good for sliding, and not refrozen boilerplate. The designated ski trail section that starts before Indian falls is a good section right down to the bridge crossing. This late in the season, you may not be able to cross higher than indian falls anyway due to snow melt and water levels. Wright peak is a better snowboard option on the ski trail. Don't even bother with avalanche pass. A good xcountry ski tour, but definitely not very exciting.

2nd hillman's thoughts re: snowboard. the trail has too many ups and downs which means you have to deplane often. the summit cone is great in blower pow but not worth the mileage. the ski trail is fun but nothing great.

Its' a long enough hike in and out (10 hours+ typical in/out), so hardly worth while unless you had an extra dose of your morning Wheaties.
