Tuckerman Trek 2 for 2002. I ventured into the magic kingdom this past Saturday, w\a group from the Randolph Ski Club, total of thirteen. What a beautiful day to be alive, mobile, and free in America. Hiked into the bowl around ?11:30? Still snow on the upper extremities of the trail, a little slip-sliding action to keep your mind focused on the trail and not the tail http://timefortuckerman.com/ubb/smile.gif in front of ya http://timefortuckerman.com/ubb/smile.gif My last excursion was with saxman, about a month ago and we bailed before getting into the bowl, wise decision at the time. This time I brought an inflatable snow\water circular tube, heavy grade rubber\plastic from the Ragged Mountain Sale. After lunch on the aptly named rocks, I mustarded up enough sack, with a lot of chastising from the "Randolphians", to attempt my first ride in the bowl. I’d say I climbed just under a third of the bowl, hearing a chorus of “higher, higher, higher, headwall” as I made my way to the human-foot imprinted ladder. I side stepped my way to oft center of the bowl. After a quick assessment of my intended route, I was cruising down the bowl, extreme adrenaline rush instantly takes over your mind and body. Ah, if you could only attain that feeling everyday. If time permitted I was going for a replay,,,,, but of course higher, nonetheless, it was a great ride on the tube…. Thanks to m@ for the Tuckerman’s screensaver.

Tube: That is one of the best ways to do tuckerman. I did it last year and the fact that the crowd goes crazy is the best part I think. Sledding-wise, the bowl is excellent. As steep as you dare and plenty of run out.

How were the boulders/debris a the base of the rocks? The day you+Sax-a-ma-phone were there I had a toob in the bag, but the sharp chunks of volvo-sized ice kept me on the boards this year.

The only obstacles I had to contend with while lining up my tube descent were a jump at the base of the bowl, which I tried to hit and I'm glad it didn't at the speed I was traveling, no "real" steering while on the tube, and people who were making their way up it. The snow was relatively soft. Saturday was ideal, warm, sunny, light breeze, and blue skies. Best weather I've ever had while in the bowl. I didn't notice any big chunks of ice, close to the lunch rocks, where I went down. Are you planning a trek up to the bowl this year before the snow melts?

Jim:

Unfortunatly this is a one trip year for me yet again. Stupid rest of the world plans piling up already... but wait, maybe saturday... actually, I have this weekend free and *MIGHT* be able to swing it. I'll keep ya posted. It would be a day trip with just the tube and maybe a whole bunch of dogs.
