Sounds like she collapsed at Pinkham. No cause of death. No apparent negligence on anyone's part. Just a sad story.

People die on Mt. Washington - we talk about it here.

If you don't like it I suggest you find another forum.

One can only guess that it must have been some preexisting heart condition or something.

Those poor parents. :(

i'm not saying we shouldn't talk about it. I was just commenting on the fact that it made my unhappy.

If you can't handle the reality...
Then you should probably not take part...

Fact is.. People die in and around Mt Washington every year.. You should celebrate our lost comrades and learn from their missfortune...

Reread you post... It doesn't come across that way..
Comments about people dying are usually something like...
"Wow... Terrible tragedy"
"I feel bad for them"
"Tragic loss"

Just found out a friend of mine had a son on that trip.

DavidHowland14: Sometimes we talk about death here because there might be something to learn. Sometimes we talk about death here because it affected us personally. And sometimes we talk about death here because we heard about it and we wanted to share the feelings we were having with someone.

One more piece of advice: Generally if you think maybe you've said something stupid - the best course of action is to stop talking.

Tragic, but unfortunately, I'd guess inevitable.

In a way it is almost better that it happened at Pinkham rather than on the hike - with the facilities and quality of emergency care there, at least the family hopefully won't have to second guess, "what if . . . if only she had access to medical attention. . . " If they know or learn anything about the staff at Pinkham, they should at least have the consolation of knowing that nothing more could be done.

I hope that there isn't a knee-jerk reaction and that educational trips as valuable as this get canned. I supervise a trip each year to NH and the benefits as a life experience are awesome.

That's hard on the class mates too. In 8th grade I had a class mate die at a school dance from a preexisting heart condition. At that age it was a hard and confusing lesson to learn. A story like that, being local for us,(I've lived most my life in Milford) I'm sure it will touch people we know.

I haven't figured out if I feel sorry for you or not.

Sad story, my thoughts go out to her family, friends and classmates.

I don't think he meant anything by it...but....

DH14 - Just be careful about not only what you say, but how you say it. Even the most innocent comment in a serious post such as this can stir a little emotion. Shake it off. No worries. ;)
