Randosteve was in the SAR group after this apparent wet slab release in Darby Canyon. http://tetonat.com/. It's also on the JH Avy site in less detail: http://www.jhavalanche.org/scripts/avalanche.php?action=bulletin.

Frightening reminder that just because it's, sunny, warm and corning up nicely with spring freeze / thaw cycles, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's stable and safe from large-scale, deep slab releases. Be careful.

the big crown in Left looks like it went to the sugar layer...I still think there is another poor bond below that.

Perhaps the consolidation period changed that....perhaps not.

Wonder where DMC was....or is. I had to read it back a couple of times to relize they didn't say the guys were from the east.

Wonder where DMC was. . . or is.

That report said one guy was from Driggs [ID] and the deceased guy was from Steamboat.

Think DMC's okay - he was supposed to get back yesterday: Leaving Sunday for a week... Still snowing there... I need this...

and he posted these vids from Targhee and adjacent BC (I suspect) two days ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzSXiAdG8gs; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPBvhSkUq6k.

Plus you tube said he logged in yesterday.

The stuff on top of the Dec/Jan 6 crust? Don't know. It may have been in cold slab state for quite a while and not really settled.

I think the fracture line was still visible on Sunday if I remember correctly, but I really didn't take a hard look at Left as it was clear that the new snow and good skiing was all on the north side

So there is probably at least hangfire potential - be careful

Speaking of Tetons avalanches. Check out the picture in this report, noting where the skiier triggered the avalanche, the path he took down in the debris, and where he ended up -- only partly buried and UNINJURED! Holy crap! Another skiier was not so lucky in that same vicinity on Jan. 5th.

That's the traverse you take after you drop Glory Bowl, climb Powder 8's slope, then go over to Pinedale and eventually, no name, right? If so, we were pretty nervous on a warm day when sluff was dropping onto our heads from god knows how high up. Don't answer. Gimme TR instead.:)
