I couldn't decide if this should go in off piste in the thread about Darwin Awards, or under Avalanche and Safety.
"Tuckerman Ravine has MODERATE and HIGH avalanche danger today"
We found evidence of avalanche activity in this layer yesterday morning including a potentially human triggered slide in the Lip. Though we don't know too much about the circumstances it appears it was triggered by snowshoers descending the Lip under the cover of darkness. A self rescue likely ensued as evidenced by an excavation hole and it appears that no one suffered any substantial injuries.
   Holy Crap!

It's generally called getting an "alpine start," and makes sense when climbing crevassed terrain, or even in non-crevassed terrain when firm conditions makes for better cramponing and easier climbing, during spring or summer months (climb when it's hard, descend when the sun has had a chance to do its thing).

But in this case, sounds like some bumblies were in a rush to head off anyone stealing their first tracks! They're seriously lucky they didn't pay for the mistake with their lives.
