We had not got up yet when we saw the TV forcaster speak the code at 5:46 this morning:
Mrs RR batted her lashes at me and coyly said, "I can take my laptop and a couple of books and study if I get tired, lets go to Cannon on Saturday."

I would so marry that woman again!

That purple band, even though the map may not indicate, most certainly reaches over Jay also.

Can't wait to see what the ravine looks like after this!

"Folks, this is your co-pilot speaking", RR said. "You know that this winter has primed Tripyramid with an excellent base", he went on.

"Pack your lunch and skin an hour and 50 minutes out the Livermore Road* to the North Slide trail. Be careful crossing the drainage right off the Livermore Road.

"Don't burn out on the 1/4 mile to the base of the slide or skinning up its 1800 vertical feet. It's okay to go for the summit, but it is unlikely you'll get any more skiing vert even if there will be drifts 10-12 feet deep

"Enjoy", he said wistfully, knowing that he could not get there this w/e.

* Park at Depot Camp and pay only the WMNF day use fee. That's at the North end of town in Waterville Valley.

I would too but for the 1st time! You're a lucky man you are! :D DO you know of any others like her that happen to be gorgeous and single and possibly ski? ;) I'll accept riders as well too. As long as slippin' and a slidin' is a passion. :p

Anyone notice it thundersnows more often these days than say a decade ago? Something to do with climate change perhaps?

The good news is that the snow is coming down heavily, and we have at least 4” of fresh snow on the ground. The bad news is that the wind has picked up steadily since 6:00, when the first reports were done. We are now seeing gusts of 40 mph and higher. Because of these winds, we will not be open today. Forecasts call for snow and wind right through the day.

OOOOHHHH NOOOOO!!! Poor RR! I hope he brought his skins!

So far, so good, I think. Radar seems to be showing all snow for 90% of VT and NH, and it looks like a blizzard on Killington's K1 webcam, though you obviously cannot tell what type of snow or other frozen precip is falling. It's white, to be sure, but is it powdah? I'm waiting to get a status report from a few buds up there who I think were going to MRG today.

GO ULLR!!!! :snowflakes: :snowflakes: :snowflakes: :snowflakes:

The Summit started recording snow just before midnight and the intensity should be picking up as the day progresses. Right now we're under a pocket of slightly drier air than the rest of the region but still getting enough snow to make us twitchy. Slightly rimed capped columns averaging 1.5mm are currently the dominant crystal type with a variety of needles, spatial dendrites and stellars rounding out the mix. This should change as the moister air moves in later this morning and the columns disappear. Differences in crystal type can help determine how layers of new snow may interact but on days like today its important to remember the big picture--THE NWS IS PREDICTING UP TO 2'(61cm) OF NEW SNOW BY THE TIME THIS STORM MOVES OUT TONIGHT!! Accompanying winds will stay out of the SE at 35-50mph (55-80kph) for the first part of the day before wrapping around to the W tonight. Wind speeds are likely to rise to 70mph (113kph) for a short window during the middle of the day before returning to the morning's predicted speeds. The wind direction may not be ideal for snow loading into the ravines but the speeds are pretty favorable. If you remember the storm of Valentine's Day you should recall that we had such strong winds that we actually ended up with less snow in Huntington after the storm as a result of massive scouring and transport to the lower elevations. With today's combination of factors we believe avalanche activity is likely to occur in most forecast areas. Although some areas may not reach the High rating during the daylight hours access generally requires travel through the runout of an area with higher concern. An example of this would be the Lower Snowfields with its commonly used approach from Hillman's Highway. Remember you don't have to be in steep terrain to get punished by the avalanche demons, even the lower angled runouts will do.

looking good...2 feet plus wind loading = excellent ravine

http://image.weather.com/images/maps/current/cur_ne_720x486.jpg

looks to me like greylock got some snow before the rain, but we'll see...might be an interesting t-bolt trip.

and this is becoming a monster post, but Ragged got a 30-day extension and a 10 million offer on the property, which would pay off their loan and give them 5 million. and ragged would haver a new owner. pretty good outcome, in my opinion.

looking good...2 feet plus wind loading = excellent ravine...This is the strong layer that could be too much for the sugar layer found by numerous parties digging pits over the last 2.5 weeks. We have all observed it....it's only 12" above the ice layer on average with three strong layers above it by tonight.

I will guess this will cause an "Extreme" posting on the report tomorrow AM.
