I've got a day off on Sat (2/25). I'm going to try for a pre-dawn raid on Big Jay then drive the couple of hours over to Pinkham's to poke around.

Avi danger's been low to moderate for most of the week. anyone know if there's been regular skiing at the Bowl since the storm?

since this is such an abbreviated version, i'll just leave it in this thread.

got to big jay "parking lot" on Rt 242 before 5am, expecting to "summit" by around 7 and be down by 7:30. hiked into the woods with my headlamp- just me, myself and I. - spent at least 20 minutes wandering around and wondering if i was headed in the right direction. finally got on the trail and made it to the base of the hill by dawn. skins and crampons totally useless after about 1/4 of the way up the hill because the snow was so deep and the grade so steep. -took the planks off my feet and switched the split into snowboard mode so I could use it as kind of a paddle to pull my self up the hill. beau coup tree wells, lots of cursing while crawling up the hill on my hands (paddling my snowboard) and knees and 5 hours later, about 100 yards from the summit. Energy completely spent so I head down. A couple of perfect turns and then the runout. Back at the car by 10:30 - hey, only 3 hours late! scotch the tucks plan today, going back to jay resort as soon as I warm up to ride the chairlift. stoopid pics to come.
