Not realizing that the son of the inferno was going on that weekend, i made plans to be up in tucks. i usually avoid the crowds on tucks but i'm jonzsen and this is my only free weekend this month.
anyways...are there sections of the bowl that will be closed on saturday and sunday. i think there is only 2 events actually on mt wash. the foot race to hermit lake and the ski race down...?
and how crowded does it get on that weekend.?
also anyone recomend the cheapest hotel motel...living room floor nearest pinkham notch.
thanx alot

I was there last year during the race and there were thousands of people in the bowl. The race last year was running down the right side of the headwall. There was plenty of area to ski so most people were pretty spread out. Skiing out the Sherburn was very crowded and somewhat treacherous with young kids flying down the trail.
All in all, it was a great time to go. The race was sure fun to watch.
Enjoy

Race course starts above the ravine and down between the Lip and the Sluice (right side). Course can be see below...

It does get crowded so I suggest you arrive early (before 8am) to get a decent parking spot (they had a shuttle from Wildcat for overflow parking last year.. $5 return). As well the trail had major bottle neck above HoJo's... racers had to call out 'track' a lot.
Enjoy the party atmosphere or else change your plans and head over to the quiet side at Gulf of Slides instead.
I'd recommend the Royalty Inn in Gorham.. about 10 minutes north of Pinkham. They offer spring skiing specials. Visit http://www.royaltyinn.com . Other options can be found at http://skicentral.com/tuckerman.html as well as http://skicentral.com/newhampshire1.html .

There are MANY low-cost lodging options in the Mt. Washington Valley. Either call the Chamber of Commerce at 603-356-3171 or go to www.mtwashingtonvalley.org (http://www.mtwashingtonvalley.org)
