" We are 100% OPEN with ALL lifts running and GREAT SNOW! "

From the front page of Stowe's website.

Finally...winter...snow...they have returned, at least to Northern VT.

Stowe is reporting in at 48 open trails, of course, somehow, Hackett's Highway doesn't count as a trail, and that remains closed.

Also fully open includes Mad River Glen and Sugarbush, with Killington and Bolton Valley both having only one closed run.

yay! looks good for my trip up to stowe from wed. to sun. in feb. :-D

also, i thought kmart had 200 trails, but they've only got 149 open. Thats 51 closed by my count. and MGR is all natural snow, right? that bodes well.

According to skivermont.com, the big Kill has 150 trails.

MRG does have some snowblowing capacity, but its generally mostly natural. That isnt the only wellboding thing though. Stuff like Upper Liftline at Smuggs is all natural snow, not to mention the smattering of 5 foot drop in it...Tons of glades are open too. Castlerock at the Bush is also all natural snow. Up here its looking white and promising.

What Wednesday are you going to be at Stowe? I just might be there due to Telemarking class.

Now, I'm a fan of the Big K, and I think they are generally one of the more honest mountains when it comes to reporting conditions and such, but they were a wee bit loose with the truth this past weekend. To be sure, MUCH of the mountain was open and in great shape, but there were quite a few trails and lifts that were not open (most notably the South Ridge Triple and all the trails over there, as well as Devil's Fiddle and that chair). But it's a minor complaint.

According to skivermont.com, the big Kill has 150 trails.connectors are not classic NE trails, they are connectors; Upper-Middle-Lower = 1 trail not 3...etcetera, etcetera...inflated trailcounts are like penile enhancement pills, a sure sign of shortcomings!

...MRG does have some snowblowing capacity, but its generally mostly natural. .....with both snow guns blazing MRG builds up its novice terrain at the trail junctions. Experts ski on natural snow just as God intended!

...Castlerock at the Bush is also all natural snow. Up here its looking white and promising....I got turns there on Tuesday last week. Middle Earth was sweet, Castle Rock was very nice and Rumble was better than I hoped. No damage to my skis on any of those three. I stayed off the lift line there as the scratchy bits were pretty widespread, 'specially at the fun bits.

:D Or in the case of Big K, merely the sign of a mid-life crisis and loss of confidence after a youth wasted on cheap whores (high-speed quads and wide trails) and drugs (excess snowmaking). Gotta admit that K's got the goods (is it fair to say that the second tallest mountain in VT is well hung?), but somehow they're still compensating for their insecurities.

xD, i'm not sure i like where this is going. are you trying to say that K-mart is going downhill, so to speak?

If KMart is seen as amalgamous to the entire ASC, then yes. Its going downhill.

And RR is truly correct...experts ski on natural snow.

I would take a day of crappy natural snow over just about any day of manmade. There is only one place that knows how to blow snow correctly, and that's Attitash. Attitash blows snow on Mythmaker and leaves it open...so its a big manmade powdery bumpfestapalooza.

The natural vs manmade argument was truly seen at Smuggs this weekend vs last weekend, or even this weekend alone. While last weekend, Upper FIS was a blast, this weekend I despised it with a passion, as the big huge snowmaking bumps SUCKED!!! Also, take Smuggler's Alley. This is a single black, nice and steep, wide, and was groomed and had snowmaking snow on it. I couldn't turn on it because it was a sheet of ice. We cut ONE TRAIL over to Bootlegger's, which was natural snow, no grooming, same steepness and aspect...and I was doing fine, even with bumps everywhere!

EDIT: David, if you're there on the 21st...I won't be. No tele class that day because its high school vacation week, so they prioritize their instructors to those people as opposed to college peoples.

Looking down the road snow showers and flurries are in the forecast every day this week right through Sunday! Now, here’s a recap on the last couple of days. We picked up 2” yesterday, 2” on Saturday, and 2” the day before in our summits. Looking back at the last 10 days we’ve seen two feet of new snow!

full moon this friday...Lake Effect rules! As long as Champlain ain't froze over it will snow like that on the Ridge. 2-6 inches is so usual for the Peaks between Lincoln and Jay.

so...."the Ridge" = the high peaks of the Green Mountains...those mountains just East of Lake Champlain getting all the Lake Effect snow showers!

Psh, Kmart...To ride down icy ribbons of manmade death! (Along with the rest of the MA, NH, and VT high school population)

Seriously, beg and beg and beg for at least a day or two up here. Stuff is PRIME!

Well, I'm going to differ on at least one point. I race twice a week and would much prefer to race on manmade (assuming that it has been made correctly) than natural. Manmade, made specifically for racing, is much harder and far more durable.

Freeeride = natural and race = hardpack manmade. However, if I could only ski as God intended I'd only get to ski a few times a year. I believe God really intended for me to ski 100 days a year even if it is manmade for 80 of them.
