Just noticed some premium cams: GOS, separate Tuck and Huntington and northern presi cams, plus campaign for new Bretton Woods cam. Anybody know when these came around? Are they actually new? I'm gonna join (should've years ago, considering how much I've used their great resources).

FYI, here's the BW cam pitch:
The view of the Presidential Range from Bretton Woods is breathtaking – it is one of the most photographed landscapes in New Hampshire. In collaborating with Bretton Woods Mountain Resort, we are happy to announce that we will soon be offering that same view, through the lens of our new webcam! You can do your part by participating in the Bretton Woods Challenge!

If you aren't a current member of the Mount Washington Observatory, click "Join now!" to become a member, offering financial support to this legendary non-profit organization. If you are already a member, thanks! You can also help launch this new webcam by emailing this page to family and friends to have them sign up. Once we hit 250 new members, we'll "flip the switch" and make the webcam live.

I just joined a couple weeks back, in response to this pitch. Not so much for the cam access, but just because I realized how often I visit their site for weather, trail, webcam and other information. $40 for a year seemed a small price to pay. Went ahead and joined the AMC as well. Still gotta join AAC, if for no other reason than the high peaks rescue insurance (and because I love that damn Tetons Climbers' Ranch so much; and they're working on a similar campground for the Gunks).

The cam zooms have been around for years - we used to ALL have access.

I stumbled upon them a few years back and emailed the guy in charge of them and asked if it was okay to share the link - he said go ahead but don't go crazy - and told me then that they were considering making them some kinda "perk" for membership.

so those views are just zooms of the wildcat cam? if it has that kind of capacity, why not install a controllable one, ala Killington K-1 webcam

That camera is solar powered, and uses 802.11b to transmit the images back to the MWO. It's only turned on every 15min for a 3min window to take some images and then it goes to sleep. Allowing remote access by random users would be too much of a power drain on the solar system me thinks.

Lots of info, pretty interesting to the geeky types here:

Yeah I just joined the observatory again the other night after not being a member for a while. The zoomed in images are new I thought well I never saw them before. Also there are sun rise and set vids every day from all the cams which are pretty sweet and a weekly ObsCast which is a vid about the weather for the week and just about the observatory in general. The video from this week was pretty cool. The new stuff made it worth while to join again since I was going to join again anyway.
