Hey people,

man, i am freakin' counting down the days to this weekend i am so excited. it seems to be all i think, talk and fantasize about. my friends and i are jetting out of here on thursday night and i am just wondering what would be the best way to go from philly? we have general directinos, but would be interested in any other ways to go? you know like the secret underground tunnel leading directly to the ravine from philadelphia that one can travel on with autobahn speeds?

any routes would be greatly appreciated. i find myself checking my gear every night giddy with anticipation.

thanks,

Rusty G.

PontiMax: The secret is the Bear Notch road. You'll be coming north on 93, take exit 32 to kank higheay(112), and it's pretty well marked LEFT about 23 miles down the highway.

It's a non-maintained notch road from Rt 112 (kankamangus highway) to 302 (in Bartlet NH) Look for it on the map, shouldn't be hard to find.

I cannot vouch for it's condition. So you'll have to look elsewhere for that info.

Kank highway is a mess on weekends, lots of peepers.

Other than that, I usually take the northern route:
ex35 of 93
rt 3 to 115
115 to 2
2 to 16
16 to pinkhamn notch

Actually... there's another secret there, a little ways along rt 2 before 16, called Dolly Copp Road. This'll cut some time too.

This year I was starting from my In-Laws in Laconia NH, so I took the southern route. The southern route brings you by the tuckerman brewery.

P.S: I know that GO feaver you mention.

FYI: I talked to the caretaker, and the lean-to's were full by 8am saturday (12th) morning.

thanks DMC.

watching the weather up there is like an emotional roller coaster, no ****. either way we are going to make it. we dicided to stay at the joe dodge lodge for both nights. i hope that was the right decision? only tuck's will tell i guess. thank you for the inside scoup on the directions.

Be on the lookout for some tall dudes (well over 6 feet). I am 6-5, but skinny. I snowboard, big black 166 board. you really can't miss me or my frinds. god i love this message board. the best layout of any i have seen!

my deepest regards,

Rusty G.

The Dolly Copp Road is marked "Pinkham B" at the other end, in Randolph. Watch out this time of year, slick in the shade and often gloppy nearly everywhere else. 4X4 would be best just now, but at those speeds you're better off staying on Rt2. In case you can't resist (don't say you weren't warned), it's the right turn off 2, down in a vale, just before the last climb into Gorham, the one with the truck lane.

Before the hikers start using it, it does get the occasional 9/10ths passage ;)

I am from Northern Jersey so we start in a similar place. I either taker 91 north into vermont from New Haven, or go up to rutland, vt and cross over to 91 on rt 4. The former is shorter but more traffic. Since you are coming up 95 Id just stay on that till new haven and 91. take 91 north thru vermont towards st johnsbury.

exit 17 rt 302 for littleton, nh
in littleton either stay on 302 or take 93 south for one exit and continue on 302 to twin mt.
make left onto rt 3
1 mile make rt onto 115
make right onto rt 2 all the way to gorham and make right onto rt 16

go to mapquest.com and follow the route i just made. It take about 7 hours from North Jersey so im guessing about 8.5 for you...
