Can any of you suggest methods of showing just how steep the skiing is at tuckermans? Every picture I take doesn't do it any justice. I am sick and tired of dropping my film off going to pick it up almost as excited as on my way to tuckermans, only to be disappointed. They are too bright, don't capture the steepness, and the list goes on. Last time, I did take my pictures back to the photo place and had them darken everything, because my focus was the snow, not the stupid perfect blue skies. They did do a great job at no charge, but... Anyway...
So, I guess let me know what experience you have with picture taking at tucks. This past Tuesday (read tales section to read about it) we went and tried some new methods of setting up a spot and shooting directly accross, but we'll have to wait and see with those. I was just hoping that someone could lend me a hand in not being disappointed everytime I pick up my pics.
Thanks in advance ;)
I think the shots that show steepness have to be beside of directly below...
A below show a friend took of me at Sugarbowl..

A beside and down at Fernie..

Somewhere on this site is some shots taken from the side of the Chute of skiers going past that captured the steepness...
You gotta get in the action... Too far away and things flatten out...
good luck! cant wait to see them!
I agree, below seems to portray the slope best. This is the steepest looking photo I've taken so far, guy is going over the lip, I'm right where the crevase usually forms:

The trickey part about tuckerman is that there are no trees indicating the verticle.

Dear Photodepressed,
Been there, done that. I solved the problem somewhat by doing digital so I can see what my shot is going to look like, if its in focus etc, as well as capturing high resolution photos. Also having the original digital image (not a scan of a photo), you can make adjustments in Photoshop or the like to correct issues such as lighting. As well memory cards are cheap so you can take oodles of shots with a better chance of taking some good ones.
The angle of the shot too can make a big difference too.
Here is a shot taken up in the Chute... looks real flat but thats because I had the camera parallel to the snow to shoot this sluff/runnel...

Sometimes the positions of subjects in the photos helps however as in this one...

and this one...

Getting back away from the slopes helps too as in...

Of course if your in a tight chute with limited angles from which to take the shot, your not going to be able to catch the sensation your looking for.
One thing you can do is to ensure the camera is level or even over compensate a bit to show the relationship between the subject and slope like so. This has worked well for me...

My two cents anyways. Then again video is helpful also.

Hey DMC, that Fernie shot seems to be a popular locale... (sorry about the quality, it's a frame grab from a video camera).

Try Whistler/Blackcomb, BC if it is a lot of etreme terrain for the taking you want.
- 2 glaciers
- 12 bowls
- 200 marked trials
- 2 mountains one pass
- tons of off trail skiing
- plenty of snow - Powder
- Heli if you want it
- extreme supreme
- longest vertical in N. America 5K+
- 7 mile run from Blackcomb glacier to bottom
- Skiied 7 days straight maybe saw half of what could be skiied.
Sorry for the Whistler promo here but my first trip there in March still has me all pumped up!
Jackson Hole was #1 for me until I hit this terrain/mountains. It is huge. Although the Hole still has a special place in my heart. as does the Ravine.
I guess I am done now. Alas, back to the state of MA.
Have a Good Day!
Paul
I've been to W/B and I gotta tell you..
Interior BC is so much nicer... Better snow/less crowded/great terrain...
After experiencing Fernie and Kicking Horse - I doubt I'd ever go to W/B again..

Try Las Lenas in August... With the current decline of the Argentine Peso, once you get there it is really cheap, and you will NOT get bored if you are capable of off-piste skiing. At least one person who has been around the world said, "...lift served extreme capital of the world" I haven't been to a lot of places but I'll be mighty surprised if I ever see so much easy to reach extremely sick stuff in one place.
I was in Las Lenas a while ago...
There was some pretty sick stuff there...
This is the Cerro De Knecklace or something like that... Big bowl - hucked those rocks...
It was a while ago... Maybe 91...
