From the mountwashington.org website this morning:

"It is with considerable excitement that we announce that the weather pattern will be changing tomorrow…plummeting temperatures and likely bringing the peak some SNOW!!!" :D :D :D

On a related note, what are the logistics for getting first tracks on the Otto Road? I understand this is something of a rite of passage. Hike the Lion's Head and descend from the summit? Cog railway maybe? (when does it stop operating?).

It's a slog. Good luck with that.

What ever you do, don't take the Old Jackson Road trail (http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/showthread.php?p=64215) after a storm.

And never accept a coupon from a chicken.

Not Cog Railway unless you have two cars.

Going up the Otto Road itself is too long, so Lions Head to Summit and ski down to Connie's Brook XC Ski Trail and back to Pinkham Notch that way. Connie's Brook trail is mentioned in the Goodman ME/NH backcountry ski guidebook. It leaves the auto road to the right, at about the 1 mile mark (?). At that point, there will be a small snow-filled hill going down off the side of the road which leads to the forest about 50 feet away. There should be a "blue square" ski trail sign if I remember correctly.

Or you can do what skiyak and I did, which is ski all the way out to the road and hitchhike back to Pinkham :D

Looks like the summit temps won't get above 32 on Thursday. Freeze/thaw weather has begun!

The REAL cold air remains bottled up still behind a weak secondary disturbance that will push through later in the day today, cooling summits further, and perhaps touching off a few snow showers. Temps thereafter may not climb above the freezing mark for over 24 hous.

Potential turns on thurs?!?!?!?!?!?!?
