There is a Volunteer Form on line to fill out and send back so we can have a count for food, refreshments, T-shirts and Wind shell jackets. We also need this information to insure that we have enough tools to keep everyone busy!

Each trail crew member should come prepared for all kinds of weather, rain gear, warm clothing, etc. Good boots is a must! Canteens can be filled at the drilled well at the Hermit Lake shelter provided by funding from Washington at the request of FOTR to Senator Judd Gregg.

Funding for this trail adoption program kick-off weekend has been provided by Ski Barn and staff in memory of one of their loyal employees Josh Herman who recently passed away. He was an avid hiker and Mt. Washington skier.

Thanks Jake. I got your email and would love to help out, but I don't think I'll be able to make it that weekend. But you never know, plans change.

Cheers to adopting our beloved Sherbie!

BUMP for a good cause. I'm thinking of joining in on Saturday if timing works out.

I was thinking of enlisting my Colorado friend who's out here for a day, but he said he'ld rather be drinking in a boat on the lake. Besides... I have a Sunfest to facilitate. So at this point, I won't be able to participate in this very worthy cause.

I signed up for trail work on Saturday: driving up friday night, camping at Hojos, returning saturday evening after the FOTR Social.

If anyone from the Boston or Southern NH area wants to join me on this itinerary, drop a line. I have a side-mission to check out certain glades and GOS trail connections that I have heard about on one occasion or another......:)

"The Sherburne ski trail is closed."

But the FOTR Sherburne work weekend was sweet. I hiked up friday night and only worked on saturday, but our group accomplished quite a bit: we cleared out over-growth and low-hanging head-bangers on the upper 1/3 mile of the trail and up a bit past the first-aide cache near the link from Hojo's. A separate group worked from the bottom up, with similar progress, according to Al Risch.

USFS ranger Andrew organized the tools, liability forms and safety chat, and ran the formidable power weed-wacker.

The volunteers lopped, sawed, swizzled and swept the trail in leap-frog sections.

Early on the bowl was socked in by cool fog, which eventually burned off into bluebird clarify around 1 p.m. I occasionally became distracted by the views of Hillman's, Duchess and Empress.

Here's FOTR organizer Ted - nice guy, and really kicked ass on the head-bangers.

And a group shot at the end of the day:

I met more of the FOTR folks at the social afterwards. A smaller crew was going out for more work on sunday. To my eye, another five days +/- like the one we had would be needed to finish the Sherburne. Al said that after this work is done the GOS will be the next target for improvement.

After the group shots at Hojos I chatted with Seth - he confirmed that he has only two weeks left in his two year tenure as head caretaker, and then will be pursuing other adventures in the Lebanon/Hanover area. I'll definitely miss him in the Bowl, but wish him the best in his new pursuits.

I've been using Webshots for convenience while the T4T Gallery is down for repairs. Anyone know a better avenue?

Dip right into conifers.

Dip left into mixed hardwoods.

Diverge entirely.
