Hello everyone, sorry for the belated report from Bretton Woods on Tuesday, November 11th.
Unfourtanetly, my :badwords: digital camera ran out of batteries (as it does all too often- stay away from Kodak Easy Cam!), and refused to take pictures. :(
Despite this, I manged to have a great time :skicool: . The entire run is now covered, and top to bottom turns can be easily gotten. The skiing is very good & "exciting" because of all the bumps created by the snow guns, and the snow is actually probably better than it will be after the mountain is opened due to the reduced skier load right now.
It was slightly above freezing when my friend & I arrived around 1:30, so the guns were turned off. My friend was on a snowboard, so we opted to hike instead of skin up. This proved to be a good choice, as the hike was enjoyable, and actually quite easy. I hiked in my T2s, and followed a winding work road up the mountain, which worked fine.
Somewhere near the top, it got quite cold, the clouds moved in, and the :snowflakes: began to fall!!! Needless to say I was quite excited! I found an orange & black fence pole in the woods, and carried it up to the top, to celebrate (more on this later).
We ate a good lunch at the top, where the lift shack was kindly left open. After this brief break, we got into our bindings and began the descent in the developing blizzard. I took the orange pole, gave my friend my ski poles for a minute, and had a lurk! It was actually great skiing, kind of like a fluid form of kyaking and tele-skiing combined...very cool!!! When I moved the lurk down & back to make a "touch & drag", it naturally sent be into tele postion.
Anyway, by the time we got about 1/4 of the way down, I stashed the lurk in the woods, because my friend didn't want to carry my :skipoles: the whole way down. The rest of the run was quite enjoyable as well, and this time I didn't get any more snow stuck to the bottom of my :skis: !!! :)
At the bottom it was about 3:00, so we quickly strapped the skis back on and :happyhiker: back up to the top. About 1/2 way up I put my poles off in the woods, and later on retrieved the lurk for my run.
By the time we got up top, it had stopped snowing, but the short blizzard had deposited about 1/4-1/2" of fresh, so it was very enjoyable skiing down the upper trail... with my lurk!!! ;)
Anyway, the run went by way too fast, and, after a brief break to stash the lurk away in the woods again, we were at the bottom, at about 4:10. Packed up and got back in the car, after a very enjoyable 2 runs!!!
The ride home was actually quite sketchy with very low visibility, a strong snow storm, and black ice on 93 through the Notch. The car had ABS, but it triggered almost immediately when we hit the brakes; very slippery roads!
Well, thanks for reading, and I apologize once again for not having pictures!
