ran into this problem last year with my new salomon x-scream boots. they got stiff on the hike up to the bowl, and i could barely get them on my feet. it took 2 guys, a screwdriver and a boulder. the temps were in the low 40s. i never had this problem with my old raichles.
i am planning to bring a camping stove up this year, in case i have to heat up my boots.
this ever happen to anyone else?
anyone have any tips?

I had the same problem with my racing Dalbellos. Took more effort to put the boots on than the hike up. I've got Atomic Beta Ride 9.5s this year, I hope the same thing doesn't happen.
What time does Pinkham open for permits on Sat morning and how bad is the wait? Does anyone know? I would really like to get a permit this year for me and 3 others. Last 2 years I've only got 2 runs in each time because I had to come back down. Thanks in advance.

Pinkham's opens at 6:30, and breakfast is served (excellent!). If you plan to stay on a Saturday night, plan to be there by 5:45. No sense getting 20 minutes extra sleep to miss out on a shelter spot. The best way to do it is to get there Friday and hike in that night (early in the day or later). I don't know what time the desk closes, but their number is 603-466-2725x116 (front desk).
Lastly - it's 1 permit for each person in line - no exceptions. Enjoy! - SherpaKroto

Re: Pinkham, I'm pretty sure the doors close 10:00 p.m. Seeing as we missed it last year by like 10 minutes. Do'ah! Sorry, my boots weren't a prob for me, guess that's good!
M@, we're 'shooting' for a ~ 6-7pm Thurs. arrival, suiting up and hitting the trail. Only 3 of us 1st night, hope to bump into you to share some 'relaxation' liquid. Us three are mid-late 20's, and enjoy, er, enjoying ourselves. Rest of the 8 total are 28-35's, same story. Hope to meet up w/ you.

I'll prob be with 1-2 others on thursday night. No matter how hard I try, I can never get to pinkham before like 8pm on thursday. The upstairs closes at 10 I think, but the basement is open 24/7 with a room to pack/repack and bathroom/showers.
If you get there after 10, you can still hike up and find a spot and "settle" with the HoJo man the next morning.

Ski boots on a camping stove??? Boot fires are not permited in Tucks. Try putting a couple of those disposable hand warmers in your boots and stuff some socks in there b4 you leave Pinkham. At least they won't melt your boots.
