hey guys,

I've got a few days free next week and am thinking about heading up to the prezzies for one last ski trip of the winter. I'm planning on 2 days, 1 night right now, but that may be expanded to 3 days 2 nights depending on conditions... anyway I'm just looking to get a little further into the wilderness than tucks (and more importantly avoid the $10/night fee at hermit lake). Has anyone been to oakes recently? South facing probably isn't good for snow cover, but it seems like there still could be some?

Also, any other suggestions? Gulf of Slides was my other thought, but I can't imagine there's much snow there right now... I'll probably be lapping the snowfields at some point, but for obvious reasons I want to camp below treeline.

thanks!

Highly doubt it. Was pretty thin a month and a half ago. http://timefortuckerman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6332&highlight=Oakes

Personally can't think of any major alternatives to tux this late, cept summit fields. I would imagine (but bear in mind is is just that, imagination) that GOS is probably spent.

Good luck, have fun and report back.

I was hiking about in the Southern Presis Sunday and from what I saw of Oakes and GOS, they both looked pretty beat to me. It was HOT over the weekend, so I doubt there'd be much of anything left in Oakes.

I didn't see much of anything....

Trust me... it was http://timefortuckerman.com/photopost/data/774/1659hot.gif up there!

Please, sombody put a camera on King Ravine...that might be your only other alt. Long haul for a day trip, but an overnighter?

...might make sense.

looked up at king's (or is it just king ravine a la tuckerman and huntington?) on sunday - the seven is now incomplete (broken horizontal) the vertical part of the 7 is still continuous, but shortened.
