We'll I'm finally getting close to having our websites ready for migration to a new server... yup! a new server!!! Finally!

How will this affect T4T? A LOT I am hoping. Firstly we are moving to a new provider who I'm expect will be providing much better service in more than a few ways.

Our new server will also sport double our current memory, a second processor and double our current disk space!

As part of the migration I will be finally getting around to the long overdue upgrade of the vBulletin software. Due to the number of hacks and enhancements I have installed over the years, I'm expecting some issues will arise... please bare with me. No worry... everything will get ironed out.

I'll keep you posted as we progress.

Cheers

Once again...thanks for the community Dave. You've really created a monster. This is by far one of the friendliest communities on the net. Keep up the good work.

so not being a puter type...is all of the hardware (servers, racks etc etc.) located at your house?

and if so does having all that equipment drawing all that power make it easier to hide a grow-op from the authorities? ;)

You really can't be thanked enough for all you have done here Dave.

Server in the house?

No we have a dedicated server in a hosting facility down in West Virginia. Way back in 1995 I did host from my home office, but eventually I need more bandwidth and reliability. We go through about 600GB of bandwidth a month... not something you want to be doing from a house :D

You could probably heat your house with that kind of throughput(is that a word?) 600GB! Wow!http://timefortuckerman.com/photopost/data/774/1659Wow1.gif

Correction: peak month is about 250GB of bandwidth for the server.

In a peak month the server spits out 30 million hits.

T4T accounts for 55GB/mth and 4.6 million hits/mth and the moment.

Yup.... I do like stats

Yo Dave throw the T4T experience on a AIX box - sheet will never die....bulletbrooof....you need some space? I got a new gig on a storage team where we measure space in petrabytes...I'm sure I could carve off a little terabyte node to keep this madness running...ps thanks for the madness by the way :)

Haven't use AIX, but being a derivative of unix, its gotta be bulletproof.

We use only sun unix servers (solaris) ourselves... nothing but. Unix is definately rock solid, would never use anything related to Microsoft as a web server thats for sure.

Petrabyte? Hmm.. that must be the next order after a terabyte.... I might just be able to fill that up!
