What do you guys think the odds of getting a platform at Hermit Lake are if I leave the visitors center at around 9:00 on Friday morning???

I tried last Friday at 6.30 (lined up outside at 6.00 with another couple) and failed but it was the Inferno race last weekend. If you get there that time (or if possible earlier - they open at 6.30) I think you have a good chance this weekend as there is nothing special on that I know of, the weather and bowl conditions do not look too hot and I had no problem on a Thursday night 2 weeks ago (when conditions were pretty good). I do not want to make you think you definitely will as I would feel bad if you failed.

Another option if you fail is to take the Gulf Of Slides trail and back country camp in the old avalanche area at the bottom of the slides (take some water purifying tablets or a filter). Climb the slides. Cross over and do the bowl or Hillmans and then come back down the slides at the end of the day to your tent or stashed gear. I did this last Friday and it was great. Really peaceful while all hell was breaking loose at the bowl. You will be able to see pics and how we did this later on the pictures forum. Look for my name as I will be posting the trip later today. Man, I have only been twice in the last two weeks but I have fallen in love with the place!!
