Skicdave,
Could you suggest a shelter to stay at. I'm bring my tent, but I'd rather get a bed than a platform. I want to stay for 5 days or more during the week. I know you've posted messages about this before, but I'm still not sure which shelter would be better for me. Does Hermit Shelter have individual rooms or are they dorm room style? Will crowd be an issue on weeknights and if I cannot make reservations, what time of the day do you think the shelters would fill up?

The hermit lake shelters are open lean-to's. There are 8 of them. Just a roof over your head, front is open to the elements. There are no facilities, you are out in the backcountry and need to hike up (and back out) everything you need. You cannot pre-reserve them. Show up early at Pinkham Notch and sign up for one in the Visitors Centre. There is a small fee.

If you don't want to haul up all the gear and supplies for the week, and don't mind the 2 hour hike back up to Tuck's each day, you could stay down the base of the Mountain at the Dolly Copp campground near Pinkham Notch, or for more luxury (it's a relative thing), try the Doe Dodge Lodge right at Pinkham Notch about 20ft from the trail head. Call Pinkham at 603-466-2727 for more info.

Dolly Copp has 176 campsites. Call 1-800-283-2267 or 1-800-879-4496.

Info on the web for the Joe Dodge Lodge is available at http://www.outdoors.org/Lodging/WhiteM/pinkham.html
