I have been complaining about our VW VR6 sense my wife purchased it.
V6 = fun but.
V6 that takes premium fuel and 18mpg = $$$$$$$$ and that equates to "no fun"
Sorry VW owners, they are ultra buggy "no pun intended" the thing spent more time in the shop than in my driveway.
So time to celebrate that is is gone.
http://www.monkeyview.net/id/694/046jpg/Champaign.jpg
Had a long discussion about what would replace it and several key features fell on the table
Gas Milage
Cargo Space
Dependability
Great in snow
Can mount a "NICE RACK" on it if i wish
Dog Friendly
So the wife mentioned Subaru Outback, and that rang a bell with me knowing a few people here have em and like em.
So we ultimatily purchased a 2005 Subaru Outback with the winter package.
It came with 20K miles on it, and my best friend who works at a dealership worked a deal out and I purchased it for list price !
Its atlantic blue, and has an automatic transmission with the ultra fun sport shift.
Tucker will be happy, my skis will be happy, my wife will be happy, and so will the wallet.
Here it is

We have no problems (knock on wood) with my wifes Golf. Maybe they are not all buggy.

Tough to find preowned though, prob b/c they're such great vehicles.

Subaru's rock...the unofficial state car of VT. Wife owns the very same model you speak of, oversize moonroof, leather, turbo. A far cry from the 87 piece of crap i owned in college.
and with a box on top, you can haul quite a bit
this wagon is no vista cruiser

I drive a 98 VW Jetta & my wife drives an 04 Legacy Wagon. VW is a lot more fun to drive, but has spent it fair share in the shop. I have some Nokians on it and actually like it better in the snow than the Suby. The Suby came stock with some Potanza 92s which I HATE. Can't wait till they are done so I can get some new tires and realize the cars potential.
Congrats!

Gas prices, at least in CT, which is where NtrentT lives I think, are supposed to reach $4 this summer, according to a recent New York Times Article...
I don't have a car to go with my license, I guess thats a good thing...Gonna get to know my bike very well.

Been riding my bike all week....it has been awesome biking weather...now if I could get the dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash while walking on the bike path.....almost hit a golden doodle the other day.

a golden doodle
They got em up there too, eh? I like how everyone is mixing these breeds, assuming they will have the best characteristics of each breed. "It'll be friendly like a golden and won't shed like a poodle." I think these are ill conceived experiments in genetic engineering, which will inevitably result in the worst characteristics of both worlds: i.e., a dog that sheds 5 lbs of hair per day and bites everyone it sees. :D

breed all you want with what you want I say...it is the owners that need some sort of breeding. It is always a good idea to call your dog that is running loose on the opposite side of the bike path from you with cyclists riding by.
It certainly would have been messy if we connected.

ay, I'm a little on the guilty side of this one . . .
A few years back, when I was living in Philly, my Rottweiler was running around, treeing squirrels (her favorite pastime) in the local park. Me, I was lounging on the nearest bench, checking out the occasional hottie as she walked by (it was not unlike yesterday, one of the first nice days of spring), when one of the squirrels had the balls to taunt her by running right past. Well, she gave chase and followed the squirrel as it headed for the walkers' path. It crossed over on its way to finding refuge in a nearby tree, right in front of a tall, elderly man in an expensive-looking suit. No sooner had that squirrel vacated the space in front of that gentleman, did he proceed to occupy said space, completely unaware of the streaking 107-lb black mass in hot pursuit. She clipped him on the right knee, spinning him like a top, and felling him like a tree. I was absolutely mortified! And sure that my wages were going to be garnished for the rest of my natural born life! In the millisecond following this collision, my mind raced with the possibilities, and the old "flight or fight" response actually counseled flight for the briefest moment (to hell with the dog, she'll find her way home!). Conscience and a decent upbringing won out, however, and I rushed to help the man up. He was justifiably hot, and upbraiding me about how she should have been on a leash (no argument there). I vowed to compensate him for his injuries (his pantleg was torn at the knee, and he was bleeding from a skinned knee) and for his suit. He calmed down pretty quickly and asked me to accompany him across the street to his apartment building, to obtain my personal information. Once again, the little devil appeared on my shoulder and I ran down a list of all the false names and addresses I could give him. But alas, decency won out again, and I gave him the correct information.
Well, I didn't hear from the gentleman for a couple weeks, and I thought, great, he's gonna let bygones be bygones (he'd remarked during our walk to his building that Rottweilers were his favorite dog breed). Well, I finally get a message, at work, and something about the man's phone number sounded a little too familiar. I'm an attorney with a federal government agency. I call the number, and a young woman's voice answers "Judge Newcomer's chambers." I nearly fell out of my chair! After a few nervous questions, I found out that Judge Newcomer was a Senior U.S. District Court Judge (a Nixon appointee, so he's in his EIGHTIES!), before whom my agency practices on fairly regular occasion. Man, good ol' karma right there! I contemplated the possibility that I could have lied about my identity, only to have shown up before this Judge in court one day! Honesty certainly is, as they say, the best policy.
To make a long story a little less long, the whole shebang only cost me $400 (to replace his suit; he was kind, he told me he sometimes gets his suits at Boyd's - $800-$1,000). And he also said he thought I was getting off pretty easy in the deal, since he was fairly certain he'd broken his finger when he fell.
Anyway, I apologize for all of us occasionally inattentive, but otherwise good and reasonable, dog owners out there. Glad you avoided the Judge's fate!

So why is it that breeders/owners come up with new names for their crossbreeds, like Golden Doodle? What happened to "mutt". Does that mean my dog Tucker is a Labaussie? ;)

As for naming new breeds.... my favorite is what I used to call my pooch...
Whenever I was asked what kind of dog he was, I would say, "He's a Canardly."
Usually people reply "A what?"
Of course I would respond, "Yup, he's a canardly all right! Canardly tell WHAT he is!" http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Get yourself some spare wheels from various local scrap yards (4 cost me $100) and get some proper snow tires for that Subee. You can beat the Potanzas to hell in the summer and get the Subaru performance when you need it (on powder days). The spare wheels pay for themselves in a couple years of switching out all season and snow tires.

I hope you have good luck with your Suby. I have a 98 Legacy 2.5 GT Wagon. Check the Subaru message boards for maintenance items that you need to keep up on. I'm not sure if the H3.0 has any items you need to watch carefully. I know the head gaskets can be troublesome on the 2.5's as well as the Auto transmissions, but it's a completely different engine. I was a little disappointed with the mileage that mine delivers. I get about 23 MPG highway. Not too good for a 2.5L non-turbo dog. I get over 30 MPG highway with my 90 Saab 9000 Turbo, and it will actually scoot. My GT has a spoiler on the roof and you can't open the rear hatch more than about a foot with a Thule ski box installed (all the way forward, of course). I need to rig a way to move the box even more forward. :badwords: I never thought of the Outback as a Lesmobile. The Forrester, now that's another story. ;)

I just see a lot of Forresters with the rainbow on them. No biggie, it's all good. ;) Well.... except that one.
