I discovered the site a couple of weeks ago. Great resource :). A few of us were planning on doing tuckerman for the first time, this weekend.. The weather looks questionable though and we will most likely not make it this weekend..

The past few days, weather.com has quoted prevailing winds at 40-50+ mph.. Is the bowl skiiable on these days?.. The winds look high in the long term forecast as well.. I am not sure if this is the norm and should expect those kind of winds or wait it out for a couple of weeks and play it by ear?.

Also by the looks of it its going to be breakable crust.. Is it just prudent for the weather to get into the 30/40s?..
Thanks for the info in advance..

The weather usually looks bad. It's kinda known for that. Go and make your decision at HoJo's or Pinkham.

The weather is almost invariably questionable. Although weather.com is probably in the ballpark about those wind speeds somewhere near the mountain, that is one miniscule piece of the picture that is weather on the rockpile. It could mean the ravine is avalanche prone and should be avoided at all cost, or that bus-sized chunks of ice may fall on your head, or it could be calm, sunny, 65 and the best skiing of the season - it all depends on billions and billions of variables (ok, maybe not billions, but probably hundreds, at least scores).

Check mountwashington.org and its links for detailed, specific information on weather on the mountain, particularly BC trail conditions (for as long as that lasts) and Avalanche bulletin. Check this site for TRs and weather updates. Certainly, check with Rangers at Pinkham and caretaker at Hojos and Snow Rangers in bowl.

Also, please enjoy.

Reps...would you believe scores of reps? Well, how about ten reps?

Tux is kind of like going to one of those bars on a Star Wars planet: You could get picked up by Queen Amidala or beaten to a pulp by Jabba the Hut. The talking-head weatherman is merely a three-headed commentator and is not going to settle your fate on this one.

Just remember to bring the Tux bartender a beer.

The best weather resource is the Mt Washington observatory itself. They will have a better idea of what the weather might be like on the mountain itself. big inversions can happen, like this one

The one I was really looking for was when you guys were resting at the top looking down and just your boots were in the picture. But they are all good.

Please do not use weather.com, especially not for the mountains. One of the best sources is the National Weather Service. The website is just as easy to remember: www.weather.gov

In particular, they put out a higher summits forecast for the whites, ..granted it's only like a 36hr forecast, but it's something:
http://www.mountwashington.org/weather/mountains.html

Another great page is:
http://www.mountwashington.org/backcountry/index.php

The MWO put together a great weather page with useful links here:
