View Full Version : Best Beer in a Can

Yes, I know this should be in "Off-Piste".

It's just that beer is so, well, *essential* in the bowl.

I hate hiking/riding with glass - just insecure about my abilities I guess.

And I've tried many imported beers in cans, in addition to the mega-brewery American rotgut:

Heinneken
Guinness
Murphy's
Beamish
Old Speckled Hen
Belhaven
Tettley's
Fosters
Sapporo

Has anyone stumbled upon anything new and nifty in a light-weight can, worthy of the pilgrammage to a terrible and sacred place?

Steve

Foster's has another style now - I can't remember what it is - but it's awsome. Comes in the same big oil can size too.

I'll bet Beer Mouse knows the answer.

I dont like lite beer at all. Some taste like someone poured out the beer and poured in water, and theres a that small taste that lingers on.

Im not a hardcore beer drinker like alot of people here, but Lite or even Bud, I dont like. Just my .02, maybe .01

I typically haven't been fussy as I usually forget to buy beer and the morning we head to Tucks I'm scrounging around for anything labelled 'beer'.... thus Heinenkien and Miller have escorted me up the path.

Nothing comes close to draft (draft rules!).. so I'd suggest a good Canuck beer like Labatts Blue or maybe Sleemans.

Hey Steve.. whats on your wish list this year? I might just be totting up a few extra beer for you guys on the 15th!

May I suggest as skicdave recommends..... good ol canuckian brew! I've seen a variety Molson in those cans, the size of red-bull cans... great for packing and beer shooting. Also, the LaBatt's are pretty good as well.

As for finding a fine microbrew in a can.... I ain't seen any yet.

Hey Steve.. whats on your wish list this year? I might just be totting up a few extra beer for you guys on the 15th!

Oh no! *Steve* brings *Dave* beer. Oh, what the h*e*l*l, we'll just share what we've got. :)

Haven't tried Sleemans; is that an ale or a lager?

When I was growing up in Detroit my daddy would make Labatts runs in Windsor every other weekend. I've always been fond of Labatts, partly out of sentimentality. His 80th is next year. Maybe I'll send him a year's supply.

Hey, does Molson Brodors come in cans?

Boddingtons... Good stuff... thats what i always get...

I just had a flashback of meeting JollyJ on the Sherbie... We made a trade - i got Canadian beer!!! WOOOHOOO!!!! And 5 years later we figured out who was who from this baord...

Can't remember what kind - but higher alchohol content makes beer in a can taste better..

When I was a VISTA volunteer in TN in the early '80s, I bought Mickey's Big Mouth bottles (yes, that's a malt liquor) with Food Stamps . That is bad beer and this was patently illegal, but I didn't have the cash: to do this deed, I struck up a flirtatious relationship at a local store with a clerk who did not attract me.

Talk about desperate, and a *bad* hangover at that.

No doubt it's good beer. But it's deceptive with all the alcohol and the sexy images in these beer ads:

1. What happened with those friends after you drank the beer? Was it really the beer?

2. If you look closely at the water droplets on that bottle,
you can barely make out a faint image of a __________.

I have to agree with skidave, having travelled extensively in Canada, there is nothing like the taste of an ice cold labatt blue from the tap in a frosty mug, which by the way is much different than any labatt blue you'll get in the states! Keep an eye out for Ithaca Beer Co. India pale ale double, it is supposed to be available retail soon in a handy four pack. Why a four pack you ask? 'Cause its 10 percent alcohol!! Unfortunately its not available in a can. I think Affix likes it!! In a can I like anythink from north of the border, well almost anything!

Ithaca Pale Ale, good choice. The watering hole next to my office has it on tap. Yum. It was the special last month, $2.50 for a 16 oz. draft. This month is Long Trail.

It really is difficult working 50 feet away from a good beer house. Good thing I don't get out until midnight.

I'm pretty confident that Foster's has the maximum volume to container weight ratio. Short of a :keg:

I can not stand Labatt Blue. There is way better stuff up here than that. I love Labatt 50 and Molson Export is not bad either...both good fishing beers. We have had a rash of cheap beer launches at a buck a bottle. Not bad beer considering it is like 10-15 bucks less a case than the premium brands.

I am also partial to Moosehead, Alexander Keiths and pretty much anything from the good folks at Unibroue. I also used to be partial to Steam Whistle Pilsner but when they stopped sponsoring our pipe band I gave it up. Not to mention it was really hard to pay for it when I got a free case every week at practice.

Smithwicks and Killkenny are also two more of my favourites.
