15% chance here.

We have no plans... and I mentioned Tux a couple times without getting a resounding NO. I'll be bringing a 2yr old in a backback carrier if I do go, which looks like this:

EDIT: I guess it will look a little more like this instead:

blah blah blah doesnt look good indeed...

nice pic m@... reminds me of a fantasy baseball line about manny ramirez after going 15/25 with 5 homers and 20 rbi in one week.

"Of course you could park an 18 wheeler in the space between manny's ear, but boy that mothertrucker sure can rake..."

not saying anything about ego matt, just the symbolism...

I'm poised, ready to go, but cannot man my post if the weather is "unsaxable". Lookin like 20% for this week-end, weather wise. There still a bunch of week-ends left. Let's pray for "Sunny days, everything's AAAA, O K, keepin those clouds away, to where the air, is, clear......can ya tell me how to get, how to get to Tuckermans trail, how to get to Tuckermans trail." /Saxman

It will be a first (riding it, I've hiked it before plenty)for me, I'm pretty "Die Hard" but also understand the importance of the weather. What is the best place to find the weather for this weekend? I'll be checking back to find out what the prediction is for the Sat most importanly.

Weather links are provided at the top of the main Message board page as well as the home page.

The Intellicast report is specifically for Tuckerman Ravine. Like always recognize the unpredicability of the weather. The last 2 weekends turned out better than the forecasting. Of course it can work out the other way too.

I tend to use the weather forecasting for reference (and clothes selection). Beyond that I tend to go when I can and enjoy whatever the mountain gods offer regardless.

Hey Saxman!

Are you finally going to explain the scientific facts pertaining to the saxability of weather, humidy, pressure etc? I'm still miss informed on the issue, and besides I might bring my plastic blow horn up next time and don't want to be disappointed with my performance

Thanks

But the sound of rain on the roof of ones' car to ones' ears is as Ambrosia is to the Gods. Unless it is POURING Friday night, you will probably find me sacked out in my beautiful 89 Chevy Celebrity in the AMC parking lot by Sat AM. Of course, there is always the fact that I can turn around when I get there and only have to drive about an hour to get home. "Never trust lawyers or weathermen" Have fun. Al

Its been raining here since last night here, so maybe that will help Tucks stay dry this weekend.... although I'm 5.5 hrs north... oh well.

Hey next weekend is REALLY looking good (sunny, some clouds and high of 61F / 16C. Of course those long term forecast are such a tease.

For Ski Dave: Pressure and humidity have nothing to do with it. Wind and temperature, -everything. Having tried in the past, in more severe conditions, I would say that it has to be 45 degrees or greater, the less wind the better, the more sun the better and the less clouds the more sun, la, la, la, la, la. Just as when I began my Tucks pilgrimages over 10 years ago, I brought lots of stuff I didn't need, and left lots of things I did need, it is a learning process. I have schlepped the sax all the way in and not been able to play it. Now, I make the call in the parking lot, just like last year, 3 times I hiked in, left it each time, + glad I did. Hoping for better luck this year. /Saxman

The sax player in my band freaks out when the temp gets under 45 at gigs as well...

We played an outdoor party a couple weeks ago and we had to setup space heaters for him...

I'm a drummer... I don't get cold... ;) ;)

RR

So you are saying that drummers are hot? Is that really the best thing for the snow in Tuck's?

Where are you getting these bleak forcasts?? I see on the intelicast site that sunday (the 3rd) it should be partly sunny and high of 58. Isn't that a forcast for Tucks? Or is that for Pinkham Notch. Help me here if someone can. We are driving up from CT and are really having a tough time deciding given the strange weather pattern that has been forcasted all week. Thanks, Bill

Al-Sh: That is POSSIBLY the worst case of Photoshop misuse that I have ever seen! You even made that trombone look like a say! But on the other hand, judging by the size of you compared to the others in the pix, maybe I should withdraw my comments and hold my tongue. Or maybe not. Besides, the misuse of Photoshop is a sacrilege (sp) and PROVES beyond a shadow of a doubt that you must truly be an infidel like the rest of us! Have fun, be safe and remember: Never kiss your camel on the South end when he is heading North. Al

I'm planning to ski Tucks for the first time on Sunday, May 4th. Can anyone tell me what time most people show up in the morning to start hiking the trail? Thanks.

skicdave
05-02-2003, 09:25 AM
Some leave before 7am, some after 10am. The majority seem to head up about 8:30-9am from my experiences. If you leave Pinkham at 9am you'll typically arrive in the ravine about 12pm (includes a break at HoJo's for snack and pack/clothing adjustments).

The majority of people start leaving the ravine about 3pm-3:30pm.

And now, from the wacko squad here: We leave before it's even sunrise, typically around 4 or so. But then, we were the ones sound asleep in our cars in the parking lot when you were pulling in!

Thanks for the replies. I'm heading up by myself, and since it's my first time, I'll probably try to get there when most people are hiking up to get some good advice and hopefully some company on the way up. See you there!

If they're calling for this (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/vtrider/vwp2?.tok=bcJcqfRBMfl.XscY&.dir=/My+Documents&.dnm=sun.jpg&.src=ph) all weekend, then I guess the laundry can wait a few more days?!

It's ironic, I'm sitting here at home not working because it's raining cats and dogs outisde (landscaper) all the while, a little disappointed because it did this last w/k at Tucks.....

Well it will be sweet justice, let's all hope for the best. I've probably seen a few of you members up there over the last decade, perhaps i'll finally get a chance to meet one of you?!

Just wanted to say my maiden voyage to Tuckermans Ravine was AWESOME! I am totally hooked. My two buddies and I arrived at Pinkham around 9 am on Friday morning. Hiked in with about 65-70lbs of gear in the pouring rain, but my first view of the Ravine made the challenging hike well worth it. We set up camp in lean too number 3 and relaxed for the rest of the rainy day. Saturday morning we woke up to beautiful blue skies and sun. I made two runs down the ravine 1st was in the left gulley, the second was from right under the headwall. Both were awesome! The 2nd better than the first (After my nerves settled a little). Sunday was even nicer than Saturday... We learned some valuable lessons on how to pack from our lean-too mates, and we can't wait to go back. We have started a new tradition! Thank you Ravine Gods for a great weekend.
