This past Sat.(Jan 18th)I headed for Tucks. The avalanche warning for most of Tucks were considerable so I didn't plan on climbing it.While I was at the Hermit Lake Shelter the warning for the right gully changed to moderate. With that in mind I climbed the right gully to the top.Strapped my board on and headed down. There was no breeze and the temps were around 0.It was a great day.Boarding from the base of Tucks to the hermit lake shelter was a little tricky...

How was the rest of the ride down? Sherburn covered well? Snow all the way to Pinkham?
Thanks. I'll be heading up as soon as the temperatures are in the more human zone.

Hey, thanks for the info. I'm gonna be there this weekend and plan on using my split board to skin up. I was wondering what did you see on the lower water fall between hermit lake and the ravine (rocks, running water, ice)? I was wondering if its better to skin through that or hike around on the walking path. Thanks.

PS - I hope your post holes will still be there http://timefortuckerman.com/ubb/wink.gif Little chance of that.

Do not skin your way from Hermit Lake shelter to Tucks. Take the walking path. I took the walking path and couldn't help but to stop and watch some helpless soul try to skin his way through rocks and debris.I boarded down that way and unless they get some snow you might want to just hike back to the Hermit Lake shelter using the walking path.

When I started my hike last sat. it was about -20.After boarding Tucks and arriving back at the hermit Lake shelter it was 9 degrees.Wear another layer and if theres no wind you'll be all set.

Not much to report from last week. But, I should have listened to your advance, though. I thought that after a week of really, really cold weather and lots of wind to move the snow around), I could skin up the lower falls (its so much better then having my board on my back!). Bad idea. I'll never doubt you again.

The Sherborne was rough...,Very crusty. Hopefully, its improving this week, as the rangers are reporting.

I hear what your saying, alot can happen in a week.Did you hike and ride Tucks? If so which route did you take and how were the conditions?

No. I didn't ride the bowl. That's becuase I talked with one of the rangers. He said it was more stable on the south side. But, from what I could see, I think that was because it was a thick wind slab. Not much fun in that http://timefortuckerman.com/ubb/wink.gif Plus I started late and had to meet my girlfriend and some other friends after. I plan to try again on the weekend of Feb 14.

Hey,

I will not know until Wednesday of next week what my plans are. But if I go, I almost never stay overnight. I'll go up early in the Morning on Saturday, or, maybe Sunday. It depends on the weather and my friend that I usually board with (he's got 4 kids). I also have to deal with V-day ): I'll keep you posted. right now its 50/50 Are you traveling alone, or in a group? -NJAB
