Hi,
Thank you in advance for any help. I am posting this for my friend because he will be up in the area this weekend and was thinking of going to Tucks. He wants to do the hike with his dad, mom, wife, and himself on Saturday but he is the only one planning on skiing. My main question is what is the trail like for hiking at this time of year? Will he be getting his novice hiking mom and wife in a sh*t load of trouble?
Cheers,
John

1. The trail conditions are updated daily right here: http://www.mountwashington.org/backcountry/index.php (you want Tuckerman Ravine 3800')

2. If you are taking novice hikers along it might no be too pleasant. It has been cold recently and there is a lot of ice on the trail at this point. It also says that full winter gear is required above the hut, which means that crampons and ice axes are probably necessary to get up to the ravine floor. It may be difficult for a novice hiker as we aren't into REAL spring conditions yet. Let some other people respond and see what they say.

Normally, no, he would not be getting ma and wifey into trouble hiking up and down tuck ravine trail, but this TR indicates it was pretty icy earlier in the week: http://timefortuckerman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6142.
Tell him to check avy forecast @ mountwashington.org (gives description of Sherbie, which can give some indication of conditions on Tux trail), this board for recent TRs and talk to ranger / AMC staff @ Pinkham re: avy and trail conditions before proceeding. Hate to see ma and wifey fall on their a$$es on ice.
