Not in Laval... but in Chibougamau, a ±10000 persons city in the lower/middle of the province (about 400 miles northern than Montreal).

It was only melting snow, though. Snows on late august in this place is not unusual in this place, although the first snowfalls are generally around mid-september.

(My parents already visited "Fermont" which is a little bit northern and quite eastern and the people were shoveling the snow on their terrain... in july. Sad that there is no ski areas in that area... Mt Veyrier in the Mt Groulx should remain skiable to july easily ;)

Nope, unfortunately, there was just an archive photo with the article :(

Anyway, I'm not sure if internet reach Chibougamau ;) (375 miles, finally, by the airs. By the roads, it must be close to 500 miles and it's still in the southern QC (at 29% of the distance from USA to the north of the province).

I don't know the parallel, but it should be high in the 50s

If you want to practice your french........ (at least, it's very short !)

not counting that the pic is an archive one, as it was only melting snow.

Canoe is a serious network, so this is not a joke !

I'm not learning french. You're on the earth now, speak english.

OKay, here's another joke I heard: Why do people in New Hampshire (insert your state, or Prefecture or whatever the hell you people have up there):anyhow, why do people in this place only lock their cars in August?

A: So people don't give them more squash.

Don't forget that 90% of the persons on earth don't know a single word of english. I bet one TuckerMan-Unit-Of-Currency that over 90% of the people alive right now know the word "Coke" or maybe "Pepsi" either way, that's one word and it's english.

Don't forget that 90% of the persons on earth don't know a single word of english. Hmm I doubt that Franko. The ten most widely spoken languages in the world are (drum roll)...

1. Mandarin (1 billion+)
2. English (508 million)
3. Hindustani (497 million)
4. Spanish (392 million)
5. Russian (277 million)
6. Arabic (246 million)
7. Bengali (211 million)
8. Portuguese (191 million)
9. Malay-Indonesian (159 million)
10. French (129 million)

French by the way is often called the most romantic language in the world. They also spent years developing and perfecting the French :lips:

English is the official language of more countries than any other language. "Whats up dog" is not officially English.

A recent survey suggested that signs at Tuckerman Ravine should be bilingual so everyone would have equal opportunity at locating the appropriate seasonal :outhouse: at HoJo's.

I think that Mandarin/Cantonese are close to 2 billions. Anyway, I told 90% as a number like that, just teasing a little bit M@.

Anyway, if you count with just 1G for chinese, we have 14% of mainly speaking english and with the other languages, it should go under 10%. If we add almost another billion for China, ouch, we pass well below the 10% and it should be about 10% of people able to talk in english.

Sorry M@, I can't do better than that. The Canoe english version is for the english provinces of Canada and rarely talk of Quebec news.

I still can traduce it to you :

Already the snow !

Believe it or not : It snowed during the night of saturday, in the north of Quebec, notably in the region of Chibougamau.

UN luckily, the temperatures were above the freezing point so it didn't stuck to the ground, as the snow was melting.

According to Environnement Canada, some snowfalls on an august 24 are not exceptional for this of Quebec, but they generally happen later, in september.

As bilingual only means two languages, I guess the second language would be Mandarin, just to make sure the largest number of people were reached. We could always go really wild and add Hindustani for a trilingual sign! :p

I've never heard anyone speak Mandarin at Tucks... Would you really recognize Mandarin anyway ? ;)There is hundreds or thousands of different languages that look like Mandarin for us.

Anyway, the chineses were not some big skiers until few years (just take a look to the "Snowriders 1" movie of Warren Miller and you'll know what I'm talking about). Now, I know that they're planning to build not less than 350 ski areas in the country... just 350.....

Well, actually, do the math and you will see that 90% of the people in the world do not speak english. However I don't believe that only 508 million speak English, that would mean that less than a sixth of India speaks english.

SkiLasLeñas : my 90% was on the basic of 2 billions of Chinese... and there is probably not more than 4-5% of them that know a little bit of english. There is may be 800 millions persons that speak english, at least a little bit, but I don't think it reach 1G.
