Well M@ is trying to lure Affix to St. Patties Day weekend, but according to the calendar, he be @ Tux on 3/25-3/26. I'm looking seriously at that weekend. Anyone else feeling frisky? Sherburne won't be lasting long this year at this rate.

SteveI won't comment on the frisky part but I will strongly consider it.

I'll be in the hood that weekend, so I'm in if the clouds align (and snow start dropping out of them instead of r---)

Would you arrive Friday or Saturday?
Bringing the splitter perhaps? Skinning up with the frosties is always so nice; I'll have mine.
Hmm....I wonder if Mr. Seth has any interesting planks up there.... :p

I'd settle for a little blue sky, sun and some rib-sticking corn fritters in the bowl; it's been known to happen in March.
Love those big sloughy carves!

USFS appraisal of Sherburne:
"The Sherburne Ski Trail is open and you can expect to find a great assortment of challenging conditions such as water ice, deep water bars, and bare ground intermixed with hard packed snow. There is currently more water ice on the trail than any of us snow rangers can ever remember. If this weather continues we may have to think about making the ski trail into a luge run".
Being the Snow S*l*u*t that I am, my resolve for Tux this weekend is waning and my jaundiced eye is casting towards Jay. Probably would try the resort and Big Jay on saturday, and noodle around the Dip area on sunday.
Ullr, give us a sign.

some snow or rain, temps low teens at night, 30-40 day highs. persistent rain crust refrozen after a week of low temps, small to zero chance of any softening. limited new snow with wind loaded lee pockets and heavy scouring otherwise.
was considering climbing and scouting some areas with minimal thought of descent, but condix etc keep making me think its going to be a lot of work, very little reward.
as of now = out.
i think ullr should take the hint and let us all welcome a short spring cycle.

You got the low-down on Big Jay as of lately?
Did a couple of laps on bj on Saturday. It was really bad, there was no snow at all and no vertical to speak of. And you had to watch out for the catamounts. I could hear them growling for fresh meat. And it was so crowded - people everywhere- with no untracked lines. And it wasn't scenic at all, just like a trip to the mall. Yeah, I don't know why anyone goes there.

That sounds great to me. I was thinking about posting a 10"x10" ad in the Boston Globe and New York Times looking for a bunch of novice snowboarders and inexperienced hikers who would like to head up to Big Jay on the next big powder day. I just returned from posting invitations in every EMS and REI in southern New England. As we speak, a friend of mine is creating a community web page called "Time For BJ," a subsidiary company of "Friends of the COG." I have gotten quite a few hits so far, mostly from the "Young Republicans" of New York and New Jersey who are mostly interested in building mountain top condominiums there. :p

don't feed the cats!
Thanks for the Jay back country beta guys; doesn't sound very good out there. I've reconsidered, just stay home this weekend and take it easy.

First time I've ever hear the words "bad" and "BJ" used in a sentence before. :D

 Sat night, rum, GOS or Huntington's, and a disco ball. Cannot make up the party plans, ice climb or ski ice? If you find me rum for you and PBR's for the best dressed. Yeehaw! Oh yeah I'll be the one in a gray tent with the gourmet meal of homemade oatmeal, yumyum.

I am still planning on day-trippin on Sat with a friend to check out Left Gully before I ski it during the Inferno race... I realize it won't be pretty, but now that spring is here, I'm looking to get a blast of winter! If anyone else is definitely in, then please PM me.
What's the deal with Jay Peak? I had two sets of friends go last weekend, and they all quit after lunch on Sat because it was so bad. Hard to believe with all the snow that Jay got... Do my friends just don't know where the stashes are on the mountain, or is the powder only to be found in the backcountry?

I wouldn't count on the SOI ski leg being in Left Gulley. I'm hoping as always for the lip, but I expect to be on Hillman's, If Left Gulley stands up then I get more than I expected
I'm heading to BJ in a few hours w/ pwdr8s and rainman, we'll let y'all know how it is.
c'mon dude, you don't need beta for big jay. You either park next to all the other cars on 242 and skin up from the bottom following well worn tracks;or, you ferry yourself back to the resort, take the tram to the top and hike over the ridge following even more well worn tracks. You don't need a beacon, but a compass and a rudimentary map of the area might be handy just in case you get disoriented. That said , the more you get lost in there, the more powder you find anyway. Don't worry about posting an ad, there'll probably be a lift going in soon because there's already been so many write-ups.
And yeah, bring some purina just in case those cats get too close.
re: jay peak, it can get pretty good sometimes.

I was there Sat-Sun. They just didn't know where to look. Plus it was really cold and windy for March (first time I ever wore a down jacket skiing.)

Me and my daughter (xsickskier2x) will be going up on Saturday Morning. Who else from T4T is going to be there on Saturday? This will be the first trip up for her and a friend. :) Bring your radio and we will give you a shout.

4man, I should be there, although probably a bit later. I will start from Pinkham probably around 10am or so. I have orange Atomic REX with Dynafits. I am not sure if I'll have a radio.
Pix would be nice...thanks!

Cool. Look for us. We will be in yellow jackets. Although we are leaving PN early, you may catch up to us on the trail up.
RR ... I got the digital loaded up with fresh batteries and some heat packs to keep them warm so look for a hopefully visual TR early next week.

According to recent T4T and USFS reports the trails are unusually icy for this time of year: toothy traction equipment may improve first-timers' memories. :crampons:
Happy hiking and sliding to you guys.
