Hi guys i was wondering what is the best way to communicate once up there.
In case of an emergancy do we rely on a cell phone, do the rangers monitor any radio channels , hand held cb radio. or somthing else thanks
Last year my cell only worked in the bowl. I have verizon.
My Motorola Family Channel radio (talkabout) worked from the HoJo's to Pinkham. I went up Thurs and had friends coming up friday, and they called on the radio saying they were just starting the hike up, and we had bacon ready when they arrived. They also work from the Bowl to HoJo's. Haven't tried from the bowl to pinkham type range though.

We use the two way Motorola phones ourselves all the time. Darn things suck batteries thought. I'd buy the ones that come with the rechargeable battery pack.
If your up there when they aren't many people about, I'd bring a cell phone in case of emergency. Hopefully there is a cell repeater at the summit of Washington... anybody know so?

Two years ago I used my cell from the summit. It was sketchy at best. The weather was real fine that day as well. I wouldn't rely on it in an emergency situation in the Ravine.
While I'm here...this is one of the best sites that I have ever seen.
