View Full Version : Report: FemmeCannon Day

The first annual FemmeCannon day :femmecannon: went off with one minor hitch -> :raining: , :raining: , :raining: and a few missing femmes.
Skidude and I arrived early to get a few early runs :skicool: :skifemcool: . Excellent skiing -> The rain made for no ice and no lift lines. :D
:clouds: and :raining: limited visibility, however, Okemo had six distinct trails from the top - four loping diamonds, one blue and a cruiser. They did a good job grooming (helpful since there was poor visibility :goggles: :raining: :clouds: much of the time).
Had some trouble meeting up, and were afraid that the :raining: kept everyone away. :(
Pic 1 is with the Okemo trail map to prove we made it (the red bull was to help fend off the effects of the rain).
Later, we met up with ski&ride and Lisa (three cheers for them toughing it out in the :raining: ). Pic two shows us as we headed out. It was Lisa's first day skiing, and she did a terrific job. :skifemcool: We peeled off with Ski&ride for a quick run to the top. :skifemcool: :skifemcool: :skicool: .
Skidude and I were totally drenched by about 3PM. Pic 3 is the skidude wringing out his gloves.
:femmecannon: A fun time despite limited attendance. We will hope for better weather next year.
For comparison, we went to KMart the next day -> basically 1 run from the top (Great Northern/a cruiser; plus a few linking trails) and $52 for the :liftticket: . They didn't groom at all so Fridays slop froze for Sat sking. Poor visibility on mostly a giant sheet of hard-packed....yeech. :envy: Okemo was much better as far as distinct trails open grooming, and it cost $14 less. Skidude got sick, so we just came home Sunday.

And Stratton on wed was GREAT. :skicool: Anyway I will upload the pics for :mumster: when I feel like I am not going to die b/c of this freaking annoying cold
Anticipating the pix here. Glad to hear you got all your ski clothes through the laundry (i.e. r*in) You guys are like 2 days ahead of me now. Damn you... damn you to hell.
I believe I may be at or approaching the maximum of my fatherly duties as far as time/child ratio is concerned. The in laws leave tommorow - the temperatures drop - I have a new (2me) snow blower and the temperatures are dropping.

Here are a couple photos that I have. They aren't uploading correctly so here's the Webshots link to them.

Lisa (Plummet) did a great job for her 1st time on skis. I bet snowboarding helped her. Skimum & Skidude rip on the slopes! :skifemcool: :jumpturn: I'm glad I finally found them. It was a pleasure.
Bladegirl: You did the right thing by staying home sick, because the :raining: would have made you alot worse. Another day...

The editing time out keeps us from posting the pix above. I'll try again here.
This one is when Skidude and I thought we were rained out. We wanted to prove we made it. You can see the dated Okemo ticket and trail map.

This is when we met up with Lisa and Ski&Ride. Lisa gets points for making her first ski tracks :1stracks: on FemmesCannon day. :femmecannon:

Lastly, skidude, wringing out his gloves after our afternoon runs - a small price to pay for a day of ripping it up. :D

Very jealous here. Sking in the rain sure beats sliding off the highway, which is what I did this weekend. Had lots of company off the road though. No damage but we waited 2 hours for a tow truck.
Hey skimum, looks like you're ready for Swain. When is the trip?

Off the road? Why did you do that?
About 3 weeks until Swain. I'll look up the date and let you know. The knee was more cooperative this time out. :D

Uh Mum, not like I was wanting to go off road. We were cruising along at a whopping 30 miles per hour on the Thruway cause it was a bit slippery. Car in the right lane hit the brakes and did his best impression of the slide for life. I decided that the snow in the median looked softer than the side of his car so off to the left we went. It was a good call, no damage to my car and no one hurt.
That dude should've paid my $100 tow bill though. I easily could have creamed him. Not sure how they figured out the tow bill, but it comes out to about $10 per foot towed.

Sorry femmes for not making it, I REALLY wanted to, but mom had some non-emergent "urgent" surgery that week, kinda unexpected, so I had other things on my mind. Glad to see you chicks and dude had a great time!

I've been feeling like a real slug for not going, but last night is the first night I wasn't up coughing in some time, and this morning my sore throat is gone (yay!) Hope Mum and Dude are feeling better too.

Thanks BG. I'm glad you are feeling better.
We are slowly improving and should be in good shape by the weekend. (I'm POSITIVE we got sick from going to the in-laws, not from :raining: :skiplow: :raining: :skiplow: :raining: )
