The autoroad is open to the top. The weather looks good. I've got a call into my inlaws to watch my kids. Now all I need is a conditions report.
Did anyone ski Great Gulf last weekend? What is the cover like?

The Great Gulf was categorized as "not patrolled" last weekend.

Go to first tracks online for a report from May 10th and 11th. Go to the table of contents at the top. Click on no bull snow report under snow conditions, I think. Click East, and then present. That should tell you enough. I believe that there will be sufficient snow in airplane, atleast. Also, I don't think that the Great Gulf is ever patrolled, is it? Have fun, be careful, and let us know how it goes...

Thanks BC! Just what I was looking for. That looks sweet! I see from an earlier report you were there the weekend before. This is shaping up to be phenomenal.
You asked a question, "I was wondering if you knew the name of the chute that is to the skiers right of airplane, before you get to pipeline". Did you mean in between Pipeline and Airplane?
I imagine some people who have worked on Ski Patrols have skied in the Gulf, but somehow I doubt they were on duty.

Since I asked that question I found out the name and location of all of the chutes that were in question. Airplane reminds me alot of Hillmans. Nice and wide, not too steep, with a nice long run-out. I'd imagine that it held up this week, but after a few 70+ degree days in the forcast things could change quite a bit. The chute that I was inquiring about has a few names apparently. The name that we have heard mentioned a few times is stinkbug (aka diagonal, turkey shoot, and spacewalk). A very sweet chute for sure. Pipeline looks like a fun run, but we didn't get a good view of it until after our 4th and final run when we skiied all the way to the bottom to snap some shots for next year. Might have to get some avy equipment so we can venture out to the gulf a little earlier next year. I have made it out to mt washington to ski 5 tiems this year and I wish that we started going earlier and/or the weather co-operated a bit more, because I can't get enough. Too bad that winter has to end. I keep having dreams about skiing. Most are Mt Washington in my head, but the terrain looks nothing like Washington. Very strange. Also, I'm a little discouraged that someone in my family HAD to graduate this weekend (a perfect 70 degree Saturday), the nerve. So, have fun up there and make some turns for me!!!

BCSKIER,
Do you have a winter photo of Great Gulf? Might be a good additon to the site, along with trail markings.
Telemark Tips Telmark Tips (http://www.telemarktips.com/GreatGulf.html) is the only resource I've seen with any amount of info and a few photos.

The unmitigated audacity! Graduate? But....Why?
Well you at least can live vicariously this weekend, through us.
By any chance could you email those photos? Along with any additional scouting you might offer. I've never been into the Gulf (except in summer) I like Hillmans, but love Center Headwall, the Chute, Duchess etc,. Does the Gulf offer that kind of pitch?
