Figured I might as well make a thread for this since looking through NELSAP, there's a handful of ski hills that may still be clear enough to get some fresh runs where others are too lazy to hike up =D

The best looking trails that I've found on NELSAP are at Monteau.

http://www.nelsap.org/nh/monteau.html

Some other decent trails might be right on the side of Cannon. Mittersill, anyone? Apparently its going to become part of Cannon over the next years, so enjoy it as (semi)BC while you can, I say!

http://www.nelsap.org/nh/mittersill.html

For one run, maybe Mt Eustis?

http://www.nelsap.org/nh/eustis.html

Maybe over christmas break I'll get a chance to head up and check one of these places out. Still kinda early though as far as snow fall goes, so maybe I'll have to wait a little while more.

Then there are the trails that have been found hiding under brush and trees:D

It's more like Mittersill, everyone. And, areas reached off of lifts and served by maintained trails back to lifts don't really qualify as even "(semi)BC."

"(semi)BC" is cutting the switchbacks from car to car on Loveland Pass or hiking kickers above the parking pullouts west of Mt Rose.

Some of the trails at Crotched East are still clear, but mostly on the easier grades where the work road and ATV traffic keeps the brush down. Otherwise, 15 years have taken their toll:

1 and 1a (later called Easy Street)

Number 2 (later called "Blitz"). Parts are open, but it's mostly history:

NESLAP's been talked up a lot here before, and mittersill is probably the most popular "off the map" lift serviced skiing this side of the rocky mountains. Youd be hard pressed to find a member of this forum who hasnt skied or ridden it. It's even garnered some national attention with a detailed feature in the October 2005 issue of Couloir.

there is plenty of trails off mittersil that most people who dont ski there regularly will not find. there are the obvious, but most of the time the articles in ski mags point out little that is semi unknown, and just tell about the obvious. plus there are other trails on cannon which are bc, and not really on mittersil...i never tell my secrets either

Mt Eustis is terribly small. i live within 20 minutes of that hill and looked into the possibility, but it looks too small to even make it worth while. might as well skin tuckerbrook if you are in the area and looking to earn some turns. that place in woodsville looks interesting, i may have to check that place out eventually.

I think I may check out whittier this year if we get a good costal storm. That place is mighty steep for a lost ski area(and actually is one of the reasons it is on NELSAP) Good vertical too, I think it is around 1,200 ft.

I hadn't realized tyhat Mittersill was so well known, but seeings how close it is to cannon I'm not surprised.

Who own's Whittier that would care if people are on the mountain? I dont feel too bad about trespassing as long as all I'm leaving behind are some tracks. I'd imagine the signs pertain more to the buildings that might be up there than the mountain itself, but I haven't been there so I can't really say.

All I've seen on Whittier that's clear enough is where the lift used to be. Thats all I could really see from 16 though, so I have no clue as to the condtion of the other trails.

So much for it re-opening as "Mt. Madness". Their web site (last year) did make some mention of cat serviced bc skiing. I don't know if there were any takers.

A couple years back we really thought that place would re-open.
